New name, but what about management? Same or different? Just because they change the name doesn't mean they'll change the bland boring menu. Just wondering.

Not sure where you ate, but I would say ok at best. They need a month to get things together before we go back. |

I'd love to know how many "Red Apple" restaurants are in the bi-state area alone. Could have picked a catchier name!
But I'll try it. |

Itll be crapola. Hes bosnian and serves old people food. He puts in used food, reuses bread and things he shouldnt. low grade ingredients like the dump in maryville. Bacon you can see through and watered down juices. he will eventually only have bosnians working in there. It's what he does. way to go Columbia.Nice job

They just need to train their waiters and waitresses more, that's all. |

I have been in there when it was still the lantern. The waiter, i believe his name was David was a wonderful waiter. I suggest you request to be seated in his area, you will be pleasantly suprised. Now I have had a waitress or two that was not very well trained, Tony? I believe that was her name. She is nice enough but slow and seems to be a tad on the lazy side. |

Just ate there tonight, food was pretty decent and prices are very good. Waitress was nice but did need a little training. Place is nothing special inside but never was before either. I will definitely go back!

We walked in with a party of 8. Food took a bit to get out, but we enjoyed our food. The servers from what I understand had no knowledge of the menus until they opened.

We ate there tonight and had stomach issues all night. I had the country fried steak and a salad that came out of a bag and the lettuce was warm. The waitress left us no straws, no refills, and we had to ask twice for things. We are not complainers at all but was very disappointed with everything. The lantern wasn't all that but they did have good fried chicken and cod dinner. I don't know if we'll go back..maybe there breakfast is better.

Only ok for "country cooked" food. Decent servings for food. Huge menu selections which could be why the staff is adjusting. Creep out factor: older Bosnian buddies sitting up front, heads low, whispering in Bosnian like an old boys european club (their culture but not ours, hello?!). If I had a grandma, I wouldn't want her hanging out here. How many widows eat there and how long will it take for them to be creeped out?

@Alright. OMG! You mean someone not born and raised in Monroe County was eating there? I do hope you called 911 to report this horrible infraction. By the way, how come you to be proficient in Bosnian? Which of course, as you so obviously left out, is not the name of the language. It is Serbo-Croatian, or in some areas, Bosniak.

Its a shame that this country or even this close minded german catholic town cant open there minds to ppl comming in to open a resturant that is far better than the lantern will ever be.Blame phil for giving no one notice before he sold it.All new resturants need time to adjust but u ppl are horrible.Thank god im from St.Louis,Mo.-A server at the RedApple resturant-ColumbiaIllinois

Not a very smart server I would guess. Do you know that you just insulted a whole community based on what you read here on topix. First, not many in this community knows that topix exists. Second, There are maybe 30 people in the whole town that post here regularly and half of them just like to stir things up. All you did was make peole wonder which server posted this and the tip will probably reflect that. And to thank God that you are from St. louis, one of the most racial divided cities in the country. Black to the north, white to the south. I would thank God I was from Columbia any day over St. louis. As the saying goes, it's best to be thought of as a fool as opposed to posting your opinion and removing all doubt. Way to go.

Well I want to give all props to rose and doolly who are the new owners of the red apple. Of course, like any place that is new there are a few kinks to work out but they are getting it together and the food is awesome! All you people who are writing reviews about where they come from should be ashamed of themselves. People want to know about the food not where the owners come from. Racist people should be ashamed of themselves that is why the world is the way it is now. I would incourage everyone to go and try it. If u dont like it don't come back. Remember this is 2011. Your grand kids and great grand kids will probably And most likely be mixed with a little blood u don't like but will u stop loving them ?

You are right Christy. I plan on trying the place. I'm just not sure if I like being insulted by one of the workers. "This closed minded german catholic town can't open their minds?. I mean, it's one thing promoting the place, another when you insult the town that you are criticizing. Or was she criticizing the town that she was insulting. Anyway, I plan on trying it close minded or not I guess.
