Senate panel OKs consolidation bill

A bill to consolidate Marion County's fire departments next year and eliminate township government by 2011 took its first step Tuesday when a Senate panel approved it and moved it on to the full chamber.

Why is this article hidden on the web site?...afraid people might actually learn what's happening?

This is the most blatant power grab that I've ever seen -- and by a guy (Ballard) who is not yet proven and, from all indications, is not even up for the job as it is now structured. The bill would abolish dozens of elected offices -- including two COUNTY offices -- and put them ALL under the Mayor of Indianapolis, in addition to the police force. In other words, it wrests the people's input away from them and puts it all in the hands of ONE person. I hope smarter heads prevail in the House and this trampling of people's right to choose those who govern them is stopped!

hey dumb dumb...people did choose...and they elected Ballard. Besides this bill was intro'd by Merritt who did the same thing last year. Now Ballard is backing the bill...very similar to Peterson.

Someone explain to me why Sen Young voted against bill 280, and has authored bill 309 calling for basically the same thing. Which is it, are you in or are you out.
