The city could save as much as $8.2 million by eliminating its police and fire departments and contracting with outside agencies, according to audits of the departments which were released Friday.

Hey "lack of common sense" I need to understand something? so articles pro police are very accurate but the ones questioning if there can be a less expensive option are misleading. Is that the crack common sense you detectives apply in Colton. Great logic, you should change your name to "Get Smart" and Bruhn could be 99. You all don't a chief so we can write him out of the show...do you need the CM to tell you flat out lies first or can KAOS just tell you morons?

Let's talk about crime prior the Chief Rulon. Was there more crime, gang activity, and less ticket writing, hell yes......People of Colton, what happen was Rulon was rough around the edges, autocratic, opinionated, cocky ....and a lot times I did not like him, but the fact is he made us do our job.Such as write tickets. We were to lazy to do the paperwork so Rulon pushed us to make this a safer city. Rulon pushed us to do community policing. Many of us did not want to do it because we would have to get out of our car and talk to the people and kids, that we serve. Did he treat the citizens with respect always. Did he bring us the PAL yes, did crime go down....yes, did solved cases go up, yes...So as a department we started to do police work...Did he try to stop a lazy detective from being a detective yes, did the lazy detective get someone hurt???? So people of Colton for once you all got your money worth..then you got screwed by a moron CM. This moron CM decided Rulon had to go because he could not take the heat from his bosses "council" and the investigations by county, state and federal agencies. There is so much more, many more city staff members used their city credit cards on Vegas trips for personal items, one used their influence to purchase a home below market...the list goes on...Did the CM tell you boys about that at your little meeting?.....no, your a bunch fools and to stupid to know it...you morons when does a CM come to your meeting...you got tooled by a moron. Did Bruhn go to Covina on his first day? Karma baby Karma

SB Sheriff and Fire can offer cheaper rates because they have a lot of lower paid, young officers without experience or education. As these officers gain experience and knowledge they leave for city departments where they feel like they can spend a career.
Keyes, where did you concieve this information? I will agree with you on the issue of the SB Sheriff having a large amount of young Deputies without experience but as for education, that is not really the case in this day and age. The majority have completed atleast some college but there is a large number who have obtained atleast there AA degree. And as for Deputies leaving for a city department to have a better career, there is actually many more options in working for the SB Sheriff. Most of the smaller agencies in this area do not even have specialized detail's and contract such service's from the Sheriff, I.E. aviation, bomb/arson etc etc. Do Sheriff's deputies get paid as much as a municipal Police officer? Well, one can easily find the answer to that by simply checking a few City human resource's websites and then comparing the pay to the Sheriff's..... simply put, there is a vast difference. Now I'll be honest, if you havent already guessed, I am biased on this issue because "yes, I do work for SB Sheriff". Back to the pay issue, a few week's ago, I had a conversation with a SB Police officer who was training a new officer who just graduated from the academy. Curiosity made me ask the new trainee how much he was currently being paid, the trainee, nervous and not quite sure if he could answer the question, looked over at his FTO as if to ask for permission. The FTO nodded and told him to answer. The trainee answered (I wont give dollar amount) but after being told the hourly amount he was being paid with just 5 month's out of the academy, well, lets just say it was $5 dollar's less then what I am currently being paid..... and I have 22 years on.
Reason I say that is because the major reason Deputies leave to go to municipal PD's is mainly to make more money, period!

Time to bring in the County for both Police and Fire. It is very simple, lower costs and better service. Great job City Manager R. Foster, the Unions will now attack you.
No furhter discussion needed. Simple math and simple better levels of service to us the people live and work here.
In reading these posts its obvious that people dont understand how much money a deputy makes or what benefits a deputy gets. They make almost exactly the same as what city cops get. The only way a city saves money by going to the SBSO is that they now have a lot less cops and they no longer have to pay into CAL-PERS.Maybe less cops is good for some people but for my money I say keep as many cops as you can. Thin out the leadership of all police organizations. Most above the rank of Sgt have not arrested anybody in years or investigated any crimes.

Hey Ken, I mean Taller, you sure seem to have intimate knowledge of Colton politics (inside knowledga a chief would have, but its not you right Kenny....wink wink). I wonder how many of those Havasu trips were made using your CPD vehicle. Well, we all know you made at least one trip to Havasu in that Black Ford Explorer. The vehicle you wrecked and proceeded to tell no one about (probably because you were DUI).

The articles written by the SBSUN can be accurate dependent upon who writes them. The article I referred to was written by Lori Consalvo and Stacia Glenn, both of which obviously completed some research prior to completing the story. However Sorba aka National Enquirer seems to jump to conclusions with his articles and tends (frequently) to omit FACTS which would make his articles less "shock-n-awe". Sorba is about selling newspapers, journalistic integrity goes out the door.

A simple google search will prove you wrong. According to the City of Colton website, a police officer makes $5,195-$6,312 per month. The San Bernardino County website lists a Deputy Sheriff making $4,640-6,494 per month. The highe figures are for too step after many years on and a lot of education for both departments. So the newer deputies make much less and the upper steps make about the same. As many have said, the true costs are at the top. The chief of police at Colton is the top cop. With the Sheriff's Dept, each station is handled by a Captain. Colton has several Captains where as with the contract would simply have one. All of the Deputy Chiefs are paid for by the county. So the biggest savings are the combined resources at the top. That is where the millions of dollars in savings come from. As things are run right now, the City of Colton already contracts with the Sheriff's Dept for specialized details such as aviation, bombs arson, etc. If the City of Colton were to contract, these costs would be included in the contract already, so the city would also save that money.

Taller, the way that Rulon got things accomplished in Colton is the same way he did in Huntington Park....

COLTON - Police Chief Ken Rulon's trouble with officers extends beyond the city.

Nine officers with the Huntington Park Police Department, where Rulon worked for 16 years before coming to Colton in 2003, filed a lawsuit against Rulon and six other superiors during his tenure there.

The 2003 federal case charges Rulon with racial discrimination, intimidation, creating a hostile work environment and retaliation, according to records and comments from officers and attorneys involved in the suit.

Hey Common Sense,

Ken hasn't been the police chief for how long now, yet, you idiot Colton officers are still all over the web talking trash. No wonder Colton is such a f'd up city. You are seriously got to have something better to do with your time. You and the rest of your idiot co-workers are a joke to think the Ken is on here actually responding to you idiots.

Do you and Truther trade off with the knees pads or do you own your own set?

Well I am 5'9" tall I have a 35" waist and I weigh 209lb, the last time I checked that is not considered short by industry standards. As far as the City Council meeting in question in Montebello I was at home with my wife and children. I will leave it at that.

I did tell the news paper "good luck, I hope you have better luck with him then we did". I will tell you tell that I am a professional and I do not hide behind a fake name and say negative comments about another person.

The Officers at CPD are not affraid to stand up and do the right thing like the Officer that went to the City Council meeting and spoke the truth. Oh and by the way he is as tall as I am. If any of you would like to talk to me I am sure that you still have my phone number, it has not changed for the past six years since it appears that some of you were former CPD Officers, Nice....

I will not lower my self to insulting a person and if you are or were an Officer you needs to step back and conduct yourself like a professional like the Officers at CPD. Thank you and have a Great Day.

I heard what Jack Morenberg said at the Montebello council meeting. All I can say is good luck jack because after what you stated, it would be a miracle if Rulon didn't sue you.

There's a line and you appear to have stepped way over it! Tell me Jack, tell me Wes, why do you hate another person so badly that you can't just run him out of town, but you feel that you've got to chase him down.

Maybe you need to put the bottle down long enough to take a look at yourself in the mirror..........

Whats up with calling a guy that is 5'9" short? And going on and on about it? Isn't that average?
"taller than Bruhn": this moronic, childish character you are on the internet does nothing for your cause...what ever it is. I think that it has been made clear, several times, that Officer Bruhn did not attend the meeting.

Poor Taller than Bruhn (K.R) Still hasn't learned how to control his very bad temper. Still trying to bully people. The good thing is he won't be carrying a badge and gun ever again because like I said, you can run but you can't hide. And as far as the law suit goes, if it makes it to court I can't wait for our expert to testify and blow KR's case out of the water. Remember those stupid things you said to him KR? Another kitty kat Colton officer in here running his mouth. I can't wait for your city to go SD so all you Adam Henry's will be either forced to actually have to do police work, or be unemployed.

You should fit right in with all the other Colton low-life's that are sucking the welfare system dry.
