Another sad case of an innocent victim being killed by someone who probably had no real need to even own a gun. A gun is made to kill. It should surprise no one when it succeeds in serving it's purpose, even accidentally. Or prayers go out to this girl and her family. Hopefully if anything, this will help open someones eyes, even if it saves one person.

You know steve-o, they should be ashamed. Ashamed for allowing this man in the house with a weapon. I thought he wasn't even living there... I am one of Julia's aunts. I am so deeply saddened my this. 12 yrs. old she was, only 12. Her life is over, her mother is inconsolable, her little sister left without her friend, her big sister.

MDS in NH: My heart goes out to you and yours. I certainly meant no disrespect at such a tragic time and over such a tragic loss.

Sadly, your niece will now become a "statistic" to politicians and political people rather than the victim of a tragedy. Also, what about that little 10 year old girl last year sitting at her table over in the Del Rosa area whose life ended in a hail of gunfire over "TURF"? I recall a few years ago a woman stopped for donuts on her way to work in San Bernardino and was gunned down and robbed. Then, before she hit the ground, they were in her car and gone. If she had a gun and knew how to use it she would be alive today. These people are our "neighbors" and this is very REAL!

Since it really is none of my business I apologize if my remarks seem detached. Living in the I.E. however, you do NEED a gun. The cops here are extremely apathetic to the violent crime in our streets. They would sooner pull over and ticket folks in a family car for something like not using a turn signal than get involved in the prevention of street crime.

This is not just the movies and shows, this is real life too and that is what I am getting at here. Your police departments are more thorough than the ones in our jurisdiction. They are more skilled in fighting crime and I would think that crime is lower in your area than in Washington, D.C. but with your area being better, your area is lower in crime than here. Washington, D.C. has been labeled "crime capitol of the country" by FBI Director John Ashcroft.

Yes D.C. is much worse. But I don't see our cops as being "better" than yours. I spent a good deal of time in and around the D.C. area.

A year or so back, San Bernardino had the nefarious distinction of being the murder capitol of So. Cal. To put that into perspective, in the entire state, this was second only to Hayward,(another jewel).

Also, I do think some police out here are genuine, for a minute or two.

Again I meant no disrespect to the family whatsoever. When I read comments like the politically charged up "guns are made to kill, so why are we surprised when they do" comment... the very first one, THE VERY FIRST ONE, my skin just crawls. It wasn't the gun...

I figured I would come here, offer sympathy and wag my head. I would have done this just like everyone else SHOULD do when something like this happens. Not read comments on how we need to get rid of guns...

Truth? Here’s a nice portion of yourself; EVERY morning EVERY person who wakes up in So. Cal’s. I.E. stands a 1 in 3 chance of ending up in a hospital or deceased from a violent, human on human attack,[or error], by the end of the day... the next day starts anew, if you were attacked or hurt yesterday? Too bad; today all bets are off, welcome to another 1 in 3 chance...

So, yeah, my bad; of course being ticketed for not having a front license plate or failure to use a turn signal prevents these kinds of tragedies.

Also, yes, I’ll be your whipping boy. I don’t mind because I find it difficult to function anyway with all of this going on around us.

I will do this just for you so you can continue to look at all of this through rose colored glasses and go all ad hominem on a person who sees distaste in people dancing on a child’s grave in order to “open eyes” about how evil guns are, while seeing the police here as nothing more than window dressing to my good ol’ home town's problems.

p.s. i am legally armed to the teeth and i pray i never have to end someones existance because i would do so if someone threatened me or the life of one of my loved ones. i also hope that "uncle" can come to terms with the tragedy HE caused.

I don't know if I should laugh at you or feel sorry for you for your need to make up ridiculous statistics to prove a point. 1 in 3 die or end up in a hospital every day due to violent attack???? This isn't Vietnam dumb &ss. This wouldn't even be anywhere near the truth if you counted how many people are hurt or killed for ANY reason including natural causes.

Please give me another made up statistic, but please make the next one at least somewhat believable.

(I edited this for grammar and spelling only; not content).

What a wonderful comment! Thank you! While I strongly disagree with your view on the ownership of weapons, I completely agree with doing everything possible, including keeping them out of your house if that’s what it takes, when children are around.

Also, as a gun owner, you must always keep in the front of your mind the fact that these "things" are, indeed, made to kill.

Having said so, I just want to try to reasonably explain to reasonable people that it is not right and done in extremely poor taste to use these tragedies as an Archimedes tool.

These anti-rights to carry folks don't care about your daughters’ friend. They prey on our emotions in these times to garner support to outlaw them (weapons). They do not to offer any real support to a grieving family. It is pure empathy in their salesmanship. They say all the right words but, to blame a weapon? This is just blame shifting at its very worst.

To blame a mechanical device excuses the responsibility and culpable nature of "CRIME" associated with a wrongful death.

Again, I say well for those of you who don't see the need for armed citizenry but when we are unarmed, we are at the mercy of those with no mercy.

Okay. Now I just feel sorry for you my friend.

Why are you still attacking me? But now the attacks turn to “spelling”? Lol…

Your time could be better spent trying to point out and debate in civil discourse the error you see in my beliefs but you don't. Instead you continue to goad me like a very typical and extremely common internet troll. Perhaps therapy might be in order for you. They have found there are real disorders linked to your symptoms.

To you and anyone else, I came off pompous, I know, and I am sorry but, AGAIN, I did not start it and I find it extremely distasteful to use these tragedies as a sounding board. THAT was the intent of my first post. Then this “truth” person chimes in. He/ She/ It, just starts out calling me a “Typical IE Parolee Scum" wasn't that it?..."SCUM"? What was the reason again? Oh yes, no reason, just attack, attack, attack like a tiny Chihuahua nipping at my ankles.

Most people know when you use ad hominem argument tactics and refuse to give a reason to switch sides on an issue; these people are just “joiners” incapable of original thought. No social debate skills, no ability to examine and respond to someone they see as having an opposing argument to a particular “safe” zone they have built around themselves.

I raised a stinging issue in response to the first post of this thread and I know it. Some folks misinterpreted that attempt to simply say; “shame on you “Johnny” for bringing politics into this tragedy.” Yes, shame on them for letting “uncle” into the house with a weapon and his inability to be responsible with it. You see it all boils down to prose. You can’t examine motive, or body language in that.

“Truth”, I had no intention of responding any more to this topic but because of the immature nature of your last response I only wish to let you know that I am sorry I am taking up so much space in your life right now but rest assured that it will pass. You will find someone else to offer your "troll" services to and in time you will forget all about me. In the mean time you may want to consider another hobby. Debate is not your cup of tea.

Peace...

All year I have been reading about hells angels in many states in court charged with murdering or molesting women and children. I just read about one mistrial the jury 8 guilty 4 not guilty for Robert Thompson California Hells angel accused of murdering 2 teenage girls. They will have another trail soon. The evident seemed overwhelming to me. Also they have a member Dave the hells angels president from Nevada is going to court for child Porn. The Police said He had many neat folders of child porn on his laptop. I think he was headed for a big hells angel’s event with the entertainment when caught with the laptop and cocaine.. Then we had the hells angel Daniel Roberts shoot a women in the back of the head in Maine get 55years then another member Russell Sinkis in Mass has 3 orders of protection from 3 different women and he is also charges with molesting a minor. Then theirs Paul Eischeids from Arizonian another member on the run charged with murdering a mother of 6 brutally. That’s just what I saw in the papers over the last year. I wonder how many I missed and how many went unreported. I remember 20 years ago in NY state they had another Hells angels President with child sex crimes and child porn. I can remember reading about family’s father’s mothers and children murdered by this gang. Hey Steve-o how do you feel about hells anels?
