Review: Synergy Property Management

We used Synergy as a property management company when we moved on orders in 2011. We were sold on this company because we were drawn to the Property Manager they had at the time. We were assured of quarterly drive- bys and walk throughs (also, that we would receive pictures if we asked for them). We had no issues at all in the beginning. Any calls or emails were always returned very quickly, we were always in the loop, and we had no complaints whatsoever. A few months into our home being rented out, a new Property Manager (Dodi) was hired. Then we started having issues. Communication was not clear at all. It seemed that calls and emails were down right ignored. Our renters moved out, and we were not told until several days before they moved. Our house was then rented out a few days later (but not to be moved into for over a month). Around that time, we received orders back to Ft Carson. We notified Synergy both in writing and by phone. We said that if the new tenants still wanted to move in, that was fine, but we would be taking the property back when we moved back (it would have allowed the tenants to live there for a couple of months). Of course the new tenants said they’d rather find a new place. Once they were out, we informed Synergy that we wanted the house taken off the market. They told us it was fine. Then, out of the blue a few days later, I get a call from Dodi claiming that we owe Synergy $250 for terminating our lease. I told her that our contract stated that if on military orders, we had to write a letter stating termination a certain amount of time before hand (60 days, I believe), which I had done, so, according to our contract, we owed nothing. She insisted, so I took my contract and a copy of the email I sent to JAG. They said that I was right, we owed nothing. It wasn’t until I sent an email to Dodi stating what JAG had told me, and said that if she continued with the whole “you owe us” thing, we would get a lawyer. I received a call the same day from Dodi saying that she had just misread the contract. We had a family member pick up the keys a few days later, and they checked in on the house. We were informed that the house was dirty, and some trash had been left behind; they let us know that there were some “small” things wrong with the house but were unsure if they had been that way prior to moving out. We came back a few months later, in December. We noticed right away that there had been some damage (scratched wood floors, a few small holes in doors, ect), but nothing so bad we felt the need to bring anything up to Synergy. Then we realized that we were missing our garage door opener, and two key fobs for our security system. We were told twice the garage door opener was being mailed... never happened; we are still trying to find the time to go pick them up. Our key fobs were apparently lost. We went to go turn our sprinkler system on today (which we were told that it was winterized the winter after we left and weren’t turned back on the whole time the house was being rented out). It is beyond obvious that they were never winterized. The copper pipes have cracks all over them.
Needless to say, if you are considering this company – in our opinion – don’t. Take the time to find a company who will follow through on their promises and take care of your property.
