You are dead wrong, and Reasonable is correct. I was a personnel clerk in the Air Force, stationed at JCAFB.)-1 was a gimme out of OCS/OTS, 0-1 came within a year aftewards, and if you didn't make 0-3 by the end of your four year contract, they rift you back to E-3. Saw it happen to a bunch of individuals just like you. None qualified, other than passing the exam to get in school. Just 90 day wonders.
Of course you match the old maxim, "Once a '0'(zero), always a '0'(zero)."
You exhibit some serious disciplinary and control problems. Definitely not "Officer and Gentleman" material. Another 90 day wonder. <chuckle>
I was just a plain ol' enlisted gunbunny for a couple years. Proud though. LOL.

Yep, you're one of those complete wastes of effing life who joined the military, didn't amount to jack sh#$, and got out a bitter man. Probably had a terrible attitude but rather than look in the proper place for the source of your failures, the mirror, you've held on to the bitterness for 22 years that you couldn't make in the the Air Force and the reason is "you weren't a brown noser." Sorry. That's not going to fly here.
If you showed up to work M-F and maintained a pulse and body temperature around 98 degrees, O-2 (1Lt) and O-3 (Capt) are basically automatic. Hell, I had a squadron commander in 1990 who was a major who had TWO DUIs on his record.
A smart person who joins the military, learns a valuable skill, can use tuition assistance to get an associates and a bachelors degree, go to OTS, ROTC, or another education and commissioning program, then use tuition assistance to get a Masters degree and still have their GI Bill left over to either pursue a second Masters or even a PhD. On top of that, all the experience you get in the military, plus potentially a security clearance, translates very well to civilian employment.
The fact that you apparently failed to take advantage of the great opportunities the Air Force had to offer are a sad reflection on you.
Back to the original article. THis student will go to one of the top engineering schools in the country, the world. If he survives the four years, he'll have a bachelor of science degree from this top-notch school. He may get the opportunity to attend pilot training, Intel school, go into science or engineering career fields, etc. He'll be expected to get a Masters degree within his first 8-10 years after graduation, and can either stay for 20 and retire, or certainly take his education, training, and experience to get a very good job in the civilian sector. In any case, he will gain a tremendous start on life thanks to his Air Force Academy appointment.
To make the comment "you learn nothing of value in the military" is unconscionably ignorant and stupid. Thanks for sharing this invaluable insight to your worth (or lack thereof) as a person with everyone o this discussion board.

Well then let me put the Bottom Line up front for you.

To make the comment "you learn nothing of value in the military" makes you sound like a bitter, hopelessly ignorant, worthless excuse for a person, particularly one who claims veteran status.

Two possibilities:
1. You're a worthless POS
2. You're a liar who's just trolling for attention

Which one is it?

A brilliant 4 year career as an O-1.
That's like bragging about getting a 200 on your SAT's - just for signing your name. As to getting screwed, I'm sure you were unfairly picked on despite your exceptionally positive attitude. It would appear that your lack of insight and projections haven't changed much since you left your brilliant military career.

You can't read, either. Notice his name is "Keith, retired gun bunny"? That means he was in at least twenty years, and possibly longer. That means you don't know what you're talking about, or you're talking out of both sides of your mouth, and neither knows anything.

You apparently spent eight years in service, four as enlisted, and four as officer. You got out as an O-1. What happened? Coudn't you make the grade to O-2? That should have come before you spent a full year as O-1. They gave you three extra years to make the grade, and you couldn't do it. Sad.

Ok, then I was in 40 years. Anyone can type anything they like here.

You apparently don't know shit about me.

You do not get to put on O-2 until you go over four years. I guess you as a career A1C wouldn't know that.

I worked in Wng Hq Personnel Gp my whole tour, and maintained officer records. I doubt I'd know anything about the promotion rates of offcers (zero) which you couldn't make it pas zero-one. You realy are a zero. All you can do is complain concernign your "service" to our country, and it appears you did little serving, since you couldn't make rate (O-2) in four years. I'm surprised you lasted four years as a O-1. They normally rift someone that pathetic, or discharge them.

If you add 4 decades and prior military then your retort will be much more accurate. Been there, did it, wore the fatigues and don't need any praise.
