My father served two years in Vietnam.
I still remember the day he left, the tears streaming down my mother’s face. The whispers between her and friends and relatives upon learning that another soldier had been lost. I remember how happy she was to meet him in Hawaii for “R&R”. And I remember the day he came home. The first inkling I had that anything was wrong came when shortly after he came back, I was awakened in the middle of the night to the sound of my dad crying. As I peered around the corner of the kitchen door, I saw him sitting at the table crying, and my mother was standing over him, her hands on his shoulders, trying to console. When I asked what was wrong, I was shooed away. I learned much later that one of his closest buddies had been shot down and killed. My parents could find no way to explain to me why a grown man was sobbing uncontrollably.
My dad was not the same when he came home, nor was our family. His experiences in Vietnam, which he still doesn’t mention, contributed to his drinking, his depression, and his constant outbursts of anger. It changed us forever.

That is WHY I work for ASMBA and for the ASMBA STAR Foundation. We didn’t have the help we needed when my dad came home, but I KNOW we can do better for today’s warriors. Our nation’s heroes & their families deserve no less.

On Veteran’s Day, our communities recognize our veterans with parades, flags, and yellow ribbons. Department stores hold sales, schools close, and radio stations will play the “Star Spangled Banner” more times than we can count. But I know from personal experience that the BEST way to honor them is to ensure that today’s heroes are being taken care of.

That’s what we do here – care for our military, veterans and their families. Please take a few moments to watch the video, and see the difference we’re making in their lives.

Albert Pike once said, "What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal."

You can honor our veterans by ‘doing for others’– today’s military and their families. When you give to the ASMBA STAR Foundation, a FULL 100% OF YOUR DONATION goes DIRECTLY towards meeting the needs of our military. From providing recreational and therapeutic rehabilitation and counseling for wounded warriors, to providing for enrichment activities for their children, to caring for their spouses and/or caregivers, the ASMBA STAR Foundation is committed to meeting as many of those needs for these brave men and women as we can.
Please give.
If you can’t give, would you be so kind as to share this with some of your friends who might be able to help?
Thank you,
