Why is Colorado City a good place to live?

I've always read but never posted on this forum since it is always so negatvie. I can get behind this post though.

Knowing everybody in town and everyone knowing you gives a real sense of community in C-City. Even if you don't get along with every single person you meet, you still feel connected to a sense of place.

I think that our town is also a good place because in the past five years or so people have decided to take it upon themselves to make it better. Whether you agree with the decisions of our local leaders or not on a given issue, you can sense that there is a push to improve, cleanup, modernize, ect. I look around and see potential. Sure the downtown needs work, but people like the Hobacks, Smiths, Woods, Monroes and others have shown that you can buy an old historic building for next to nothing, put a little money and lot of sweat into it and make something beautiful. I appreciate that, even if I don't have the ability to do it myself.

This a nice town that can get much better.

I like Colorado City because I can always count on somethings never changing. For instance, I know that as soon as I cross that county line Jim Baum's voice is going to be on KVMC.

I can drive to work in three minutes in the morning and not live in a crowded downtown.

I can eat Mexican Food at 8 different restaurants and get a great home made burger and fries at two (someone get me a steak house with cold beer please).

My kids can go to great schools where the teachers know them. The can be important players on athletic teams despite having inherited my general lack of ability (try goes along way).

Our high school band rocks.

We have a growing cultural scene.

If you donate your time to volunteer you're likely going to be front page news.

The trees in my backyard are big and my house doesn't look just like everyone elses.

Feels good to vent in a positive way.

Sounds like GREAT reasons to live in Colorado City! I lived there for awhile in 1951-1958.....then I came back every summer for many years to stay with my Grandparents. I wouldn't trade all of those memories for anything. It was a good place to live back then and I am sure it is a good place to live NOW. I would love to come back for a visit....maybe some day I can :)

I agree with the post on Jim Baum and KVMC KAUM Radio! Good to have our own radio station that we can depend on for news and weather and all the great interviews!

Don't put it off any longer. I am in my later years and put off so many places and people to return and see that most of them are gone. Do it now and you will never regret it. Although not from C City I visit a couple times a month just to eat and drive through and remember what it was like passing through often as a child. Get you a reunion up and have a ball.

Where else in the world but a small town can a person volunteer their time and see immediate results. If I pick up trash on the side of the road, someone will notice. If I cut down weeds on an empty lot the neighbors will help or at least be thankful. I like that. If I donate food or clothes to the mission, I know that they will be used right here.
