Just to let you folks in Colorado City, TX, know what's up: rumors are flying around my home town of Raton, New Mexico: to the effect that Pete Kampfer may no longer be employed as Raton's manager.

http://www.topix.com/forum/city/raton-nm

That may or may not be premature ... meaning, even if it isn't true, right now, it may end up being true, later ... but if it is true, watch the Raton Range: as they'll likely run that story, fairly soon. That newspaper only "comes out" twice a week; on Tuesday's and Friday's -- with cut-offs a day or so before that: so, Monday's and Thursday's being their last chance at a story -- but the way I'm currently hearing the rumors, whatever happened, apparently took place last Friday. Could just be a rumor ... and I always like to see more than just internet talk, before I believe such things ... but if it's true, the Range should soon report it.

I hate Pete he is a piece of cow dung and knows nothing about the constitution or manors . He is a snake who only sees dollar signs and if given the chance he with hurt a communities chance at prosperity . I have dealt with this coward for many years and he is not a man of dignity or statesmanship. The City of Colorado City Texas is now on a way to a much healthier future that he is gone. If the folks of Ration want to know something about there leader they should know of his permiscuious back ground and habit of down loading pornography. I heard not to long ago he was already looking at moving to Grants, New Mexico to run a small village out there. Hope one of the natives scalpes his ass. He is worthless and a power hungry bully. If he needs a reference tell him Jack will vouch he is less then a man.

Sorry, Raton that you are going through this. But Colorado City Texas warned everyone. And it will only get worse if he stays. At least Raton won't give him pay raises for doing illegal things. Hopefully we are on track now. We just need to get rid of 2 councilpersons. Hopefully one will move not only out of the county, move out of the state. Good luck and please, keep us informed.

You must have cared enough to read it "Sick of it". Lots of people here are interested, because the karma train has finally come around to ole Pete! At least the people of Raton have stood up to this ogre, the City Council here just laid back and took his crap!

Did anything unusual happen with your utility structure in Colorado City while Pete was there? He is really pushing to make some major changes here and one has to question why he is in such a hurry to re-make our systems which have been working well.

Update: Pete's going ballistic, over here in Raton, with trying to take over the town's well-run electrical company. Wants to --(depending on which day you listen to him, or those who hired him)-- take the money from a well-run business, and pay off all of the debts incurred through one stupid decision after another, by commissioners.

Some of us think they're just broke, and up for a Special Audit, due to the state auditor's various concerns about Raton's financial state. The state auditors office has Raton listed as being "At Risk" (apparently for Fraud, Waste and Abuse) and the attempted take-over of a well-run utility company (that is connected to but also separate from the city itself) seems to be related to that; in the view of some of us in Raton. Others feel he is trying, with his cohort's support, of trying to take over the utility companies; so that they can get around taxation laws -- since Raton is tied for 16th highest tax rate of any municipality in this state; while having among the worst roads; no city drainage systems (statistically speaking) that remain fully functional enough to even look like they were once drainage systems, and so on.

Some of us are already quite sick of his antics, and the idiocy / stupidity / apparent mental illness (Narcissistic Personality Disorder, if I had to take a amateur's guess as to an official DSM-IV diagnosis) of those who hired him, that we are taking action to rid ourselves of these nuts.

Several things are being done, about their group's odd and hurtful behavior. One example: hundreds of petition signatures have been gathered, over the last week or two -- I heard estimates around 800 or 1,000 signatures, so far; and they're going to keep going -- which is more than enough (if this was a recall effort, that is) to resoundingly toss out the entire city commission.

Whether or not a recall election comes to pass (and it might: keep in mind that citizens removed 3 out of 5 commissioners, just 2 years ago) some of us are on a more direct path: trying to get the feds and the state to do investigations into Pete Kampfer's claims that he was once an "FBI Agent" who, according to his resume when he was applying for the job as Raton's city manager, spent three years in Washington, DC, coordinating other's white collar crime and drug cases. Seems totally grandiose, to say the least -- and what's worse: totally unsupported by any facts that citizens of Raton are now privy to; or have any faith in.

The latest news on that front is that city hall has responded to a certified letter, formally asking (under NM's "Inspection of Public Records Act" laws) to see a list of documents the city has access to, which would prove his claims are true. To date, all city hall has said is that they need more time to respond; and they'd contact those who asked, at some unspecified point in the future, to follow up on those questions. Unfortunately for Pete and his cohorts, under NM law, that's not good enough. They have no more than 15 days to respond; and at the end of that period, the IPRA request can be deemed to have been denied. Just the fact that city hall seems reluctant to give a formal answer, is raising eyebrows in this city.

More news later, as Pete's career melts down...

Pete does indeed "byte"!(No doubts, there! Thanks for noticing!)

... but keep in mind that if he DOES get removed from office, it won't be by the officials from the city of Raton. It'll be from a much higher position within the hierarchy of this state / nation; and/or from the citizens throwing out Pete, and those who put him in charge of anything, in this city. His job is by no means safe.

As many of you in Colorado City have implied: "Karma, Baby!"

Update: A three hour long city commission meeting just took place in Raton, New Mexico. Kampfer and the narcissistic idiots who hired him were warned that if they continued along the path they're on, that the entire commission might be recalled.

They didn't listen. As usual, they did whatever they wanted to do. Blind and deaf and stupid; but most of all, completly lacking in empathy for any other human beings. They can expect little, back.

While talking to those few who had stuck it out for the three hours, in the parking lot after the meeting finally ended, the gist of what I feel is going to happen is that the ENTIRE city commission of Raton may as well have up and resigned, as of tonight -- because if recall happens in Raton, the way the laws read in this state, there are special rules for when the entire commission gets booted out of office, all at once: but very little legal help for a city that boots out a majority; but not all. We made the mistake of leaving two idiots on the commission, when we recalled three, in 2010. And what did they do? Sneak Kampfer into Raton.

"Goodbye and good riddance"... to all of them!!!
