You have a Task Force appointed to discuss merging the Sheriff's Department with the Police Department and the Police Chief wasn't even appointed?? The County at least had the common sense to appoint Sheriff Toombsto the task force, but the City didn't see fit to appoint the man with 19 years experience who runs the Police Department...what is wrong with this picture?

If your Colorado City there is nothing wrong with this picture. It is as screwed up as everything else around here has become.

The explanation given is....the Sheriff is an elected official..Police Chief is hired. So... the Sheriff will have to figure out what citizens are and are not for this...he votes wrong...could cost him an election next time! People will remember how you treat them....

The problem with that Levi is that by the time elections roll around, the damage is already done. And Kitten Arthus serves on the Mitchell County Board of Economic Development, so that's just another rep from the county...they should have appointed someone with no ties either way.

Living ...have to agree with you. And what is to say the sheriff will keep any of the existing force and not replace them all ? The mayor is trying to tell everyone how much this will save , but the truth is we , the taxpayers will still have the same city and county taxes as before. I do believe Linda Mathis a citizen with experience , would have been a nice choice. Why is it the same 15 or so people serve on every board in this town.

The simple answer is most people don't have a real desire to be involved. That takes an effort. You can't be with your family or watch TV if you're at a meeting. There are exceptions, for instance the people who resigned from main street earlier this year were involved, but got angry, didn't like what was going on and were sticking up for a friend, that reasonable. Also many people would like to help but don't know how. I'm sure that anyone who would REALLY like to get involved in a community board could do so unless they have something seriously wrong with them. I know that earlier this year there was actually an evening volunteer fair promoted on the radio and in the paper to recruit people for boards. Two people showed up. They're both on local boards now.

Agreed, the "citizen" appointed should not have any ties with either entity.

Linda Mathis would have been a much better choice than Kitten Arthur. Kitten is known for having her groups and starting controversy, I think we have enough of that already and besides what in the heck does she know about law enforcement.
