drawtheline i think what you dont understand or care is that all the full time firefighters are also members of the volunteer department , so now theyre looking for jobs ... not in colorado city , so please subtract those people from the volunteer department that you are banking on. also it wasnt just colorado city that relied on those firefighters your two adjacent towns used them also .... keep that in mind.
You can keep the change

What is your agenda Drawtheline? What have you done to help? Do you just read the forum? We have enough people helping in that way. The cleanup program is nice, but it is a small insignificant piece of the controversy at this point. If we are going to have a cleanup program and you are going to fire the code enforcement officer who is going to enforce the ordinances? I don't think since we are now down to five police officers that they are going to have time to measure grass. What has been your sacrifice? Several of the people I know that were about sacrificing for improving the town have been turned away. I vote in elections, but have never held elective office and never will, it doesn't pay enough to listen to people who have no stake in the situation express their pompous ill imformed opinions. If we continue to turn away the people that have been a positive force in this town and replace them with people that are just trying to make a name for themselves nobody is going to want to live her anyway, Baker hotel or no.

"I've been reading this forum for a long while and its obvious that the only people to post are those who have been beat in an election, lost their job, or are closely related to those who are."
So Drawtheline....which camp do you fall into??

Colorado city is supposedly $9 million in debt. that is what PK said on the radio program right? So how is cutting 4 positions gonna help? that's not even gonna make a small dent. shouldnt he be focusing on what will make the city money in the long term? ur not gonna get this place in the positive any time soon. why cant they have a town hall meeting and ask the ppl of ccity what ideas they have? why dont we have any say in what gets done? they dont listen to anyone @ the city council meetings. cuz i know ppl got up there and basically begged him to not cut the police force. and then they go behind closed doors to decide who they're gonna fire? and it includes police officers? all ur gonna do is piss ppl off. the ppl of ccity are not stupid. surely they have some valid thoughts as to what the city might do to increase revenue long term. without laying ppl off and compromising public safety. why cant they just secure the baker hotel for now? ur gonna tell me that they cant board up that building and maybe fence it off? that should have been done long ago, and then u would not have to worry so much about someone getting hurt and also buy themselves time and money by putting it off. i have a teenager going to middle school, and it scares me to think that building is 3 stories, with no escape ladders or anything. and now we have basically an "all volunteer" fd. what happens if it goes up in flames? most of the volunteers will be at their day jobs, and might not be able to leave or might take longer to drive back to ccity from out of town (since the city has laid off so many employees that are also volunteer firefighters) and ccity has no fire truck with a big ladder anyways, which will probably complicate the process too. so u tell me what will happen? god forbid anyone in this town lose their children cuz the city is in debt and refuses to staff the fd or police properly. how much will that debt grow when the city has to dole out millions of dollars to pay off all the lawsuits that would ensue? ccity is the largest town in our county and aids all the neighboring towns, even the ones not in our county like snyder etc. now they cant depend on us either? but who cares? cuz all Pk cares about is what his resume will look like 5 yrs from now when he decides to go somewhere else cuz he'll get paid more money cuz ccity was dumb enough to give him the title "city manager" when no one else would!

Wow, I'm just saying that unfortunate cuts have to be made somewhere. It is my understanding that projects like exploring the baker hotel restoration, and the demos are paid for with Hotel Motel Tax funds. I could be wrong about that. These are funds that could not be used to support firefighters or PD. So that's like comparing apples to oranges.

I'm really sorry about the Firefighters. I wish the town had more money too.
