HI People. LEts get a REAL perspective on this. Shall we?

1) Age really has little to do with it. Look how man "Adults" are arrested everyday D&D. What about the ones who aren't caught?
2) Learning responsibility starts in the home. Not the schools or any where else. Yes, we can say " But don't they teach these kids anything". Well, don't the parents? They brought these kids into this world. They are the ones who should ultimately be looked at as the Morons. The parents are the firs ones to place influance on their children. WE parents are the ones to set the groung work for their developement. We are the ones that should be regulating what they watch onn tv, Listen to on the radio, and who are, suposedly, responsible for teaching OUR children the propper morals and values of society.
3) Is this kid an idiot? Sure! Look at his parents. It doesn't matter how much money they make or what society places on the parents as a status. They can still be idiot. Especiall when alcohol enters the picture.

Every day in this country. thousands of people (yung, old, male female) die or are injured at the irresponsible actions of a drunk driver. The problem isn't the alcohol. It's the people drinking it. Especially their thinking.
There is an simple solution. DON't DRINK! Simple!
If you don't want to kill/injure someone while driving drunk = don't drink.
If you don't want to go to jail because of DD = Don't drink!

If one has to drink alcohol to be socially accepted, then that says something about society and anyone who believes it. as well as the parents who pass that line of thinking on to their children.

I know that everyone has an opinion on this situation but I believe if you don't know every detail of the situation, you really don't have the right to judge. First of all, as the public knows, our family is not perfect. We all have our problems some worse than others but we are all human. We make choices that affect us in good and bad ways and we are now paying for those choices. Joe Joe is a great kid. If you had to deal with a life that was normal to seeing his whole family go through a 3 month trial which was ridiculous and overindicted anyway, to his father's attempted suicide attempt, to his parent's break-up to now not knowing if the appeal is going through and if his parents are going to jail, he has had a lot to deal with. I am not excusing his behavior but please be compassionate to a 16 year old who made a bad decision and who will have to be reminded everyday of that decision by looking in the mirror everyday. I know because I am feeling the same way. No matter how perfect you try to be, it doesn't matter because it is when you burn is when you learn the most. Please remember that from a mother who is going through a lot and who loves her son with all of her heart. We all will never be perfect and God does not show favoritism. Remember that!

First I would like to let you all know JoeJoe is doing great. He was talking and you could understand most when his dad was talking to him. I was talking for a few minutes and he was mumbling but when Joe came in and jumped up on bed and laid next to him and was talking to him he was laughing and talking and also moving hands. I said lets go and get something to eat and he pulled himself over on side and also tried to move feet off bed. So he is doing very well today. I would like to say a few things here and I don't want to go over everything that has happen and try to make you feel sorry for us or JoeJoe. I know many have their own view as "GONNAGETEMVILLE" and say well he should of known better and learned better. No matter what you say you still have to look at what was going through this "young Kids" head and what he was dealing with. JoeJoe and his mother were very close and when she left him it was as if his world was crashing down. I am not sure if your life had any ups and downs but this kid had many things that happened to him and yes don't get me wrong he made a very BAD choice but people remember he is a kid. He was dealing with a lot and no matter how much we tried to talk to him, and find out how or what we could do he just tried to hide his pain and as you know but want to pretend your so perfect he was hiding it the wrong way. So when you post comments like that you get under the skin of people because you act like you are this perfect person. Let's do something and I bet you are no better then this little boy or even my family. Lets take a look at all you did over the last 10 years. Go over every little paper you wrote on your computer, every little call you made, every little person you talked to, over every little car, house, bike, trip and clothes you had. Lets see if you have every little thing so right. You know as I said many times life is not the same for each of us and yes we all make many mistakes but you will never hear me put someone else down for making a mistake because I don't know what the were dealing with and I know everyone makes mistakes and hopefully they learn. As you made that comment about parents well it is the parents that need to teach their kids when they make mistakes as to not doing them again. As you said you are a parent I will be more then willing to bet if your kids are teenagers then THEY did things that you don't know about and also things that you said not to do. If you say they didn't then you are either lying to yourself or your kids are good and are lying to you. So please before you make a comment like this look at what you are writing and also think before you send or post. May you all have a great and blessed day.

Just my opinion:
To the young adults that are reading this blog, please think about all the pain, worry and agony that the Houghtaling family is experiencing right now. Not only do they have to worry about his full recovery, but they also are being defamed and slandered by some very vocal members in the community. Don't put your family through this, don't drink and drive. Be strong kids and say no...respect yourselves and your family. Stay healthy and alive.

Just wanted to give you an update again. JoeJoe is doing so much better and I have no doubt that God spared this kids life for a purpose. There is no question after seeing the car and truck and all the stuff and then seeing JoeJoe in a coma and to hear the doctors talk about their findings of the test is no question God put his arms around him and Kayla. After just seeing the car they should of not lived. It was very scary to say the least. Well thank God JoeJoe is doing good. He is remembering all of us and his friends. He is like the old JoeJoe and want to go get something to eat. So friends thank you for all your thoughts and prayers for him I know God answered them. Have a blessed night.

First off, i'd just like to say that I think 95% of all of you who have left comments on here are completely ignorant to the Houghtaling family and situation & need to pull your head out of your asses and stop commenting on a situation you aren't fully aware of. I've known the Houghtalings for several years and they're one of the most amazing, strong & genuine families i've encountered. Joejoe, by no means, is a bad kid. Neither is his mother, nor his father (who is one of the best fathers to a child i've ever seen); and neither of them are in jail, which is a whole other situation in itself to which i'm sure half of you don't know the truth about. So please, stop reading the Times Union, stop listening to News Stations and get to know the family before you start throwing out rediculous comments. Especially at this time when they are all dealing with a lot concerning joejoe's health. Thanks.

I would also like to add that no one in the entire Houghtaling family is saying or making an excuse for JoeJoe and the choice he made that night to drink and drive. We totally agree with everyone that it was wrong and a terrible mistake on JoeJoe behalf. But please keep him in your thuoghts and prayers. Thank you for all your support at a very difficult time like this. God bless you all and have a great and blessed day.

Just to give to a quick update JoeJoe is doing great. Last night he was responding very well. Today after church I will be going down to see him and we are going to get him up. The doctor asked why he was not sitting up in a chair by now and I wanted to at least have him stand but everyone kept saying no but today we will get him up a little because he wants to get up almost everytime I talk so we will sit him up and see how he does. So I will let you all know after.

I am talkng to dad right now and the doctor had him sitting up already and after they clean him they are going to have him see if he can walk. The doctor does not want to wait because he said JoeJoe is doing very good and wants to get up. Dad just told me that JoeJoe is now letting them know when he has to go to the bathroom and also the doctor said about taken the feeding tube out. That is great news because JoeJoe hates that thing he is always trying to pull it out. I will comment after I go and see how he is doing and let you all know. Have a great and blessed day. Also happy mothers day to all you moms.

I had to change it from the kids uncle to JoeJoe's uncle. I am up at the hospital right now and we got JoeJoe up and he walked a little over to a chair to sit down and he drank and ate so they took feeding tube out. He was tired so I left the room to come out and post comment. He was talking a little then went to sleep. His dad went back in there so he will get him up again.
Also to let you know last night I talked with Kayla and she said that she was not laughing at the forum about drinking and driving. She said she was crying and the only time she was laughing was when a song came on. I am not sure what did or didn't happen but as for what I see it looks as if she is taking it pretty hard. She went in to see JoeJoe last night and then she was just sitting on the floor by the door when I came over. So please keep that little girl in your prayers as well she has it hard also and remember that kids will be saying all kinds of things about everyone.

Wow what a lot of smart kids (i think)here with a lot of great comments. With that said, if you really think drinking/druging & driving is wrong, moronick, stupid ect. WHY do some of you & your peers still do it? To the parents why do some rent the motels / cabins up north for the parites after the prom, so the youth "YOUR KIDS" can have a S A F E place to PARTY? What in HELL Are you thinking!!!!! to joe joe & kalya friends/parents my question is why were they out driving around on a school night @ 11:00-11:30. don't misunderstand my question but was anyone at joe house to see he MAY haved a few drinks? WE ALL have to be more aleart to what is happening to the Young people, and what goes on in OUR home and in ALL communities not just Colonie,. I do hope both make it out of this ok. To the person who said this was an ACCIDENT nope an accident is when you cant avoid a problem and you have a accident. this was avoidable!!!!!!!!!.

Every once in a while ,my old guy brain kicks in along with the med's and i come up with a few ,few good q's in a couple of weeks the senior prom is happening and i pray to the man above that all who have kids and friends of kayla & jojo really think of your choices that YOU and only YOU can make. Please , Please use your head to think with, not just grow hair and put hats on. you are some of the smartest people alive now with a great education and great families DO NOT waste all that on a COUPLE of drinks/or something else. enought of the preaching, i don't do that well. I do understand the peer pressure and not having any friends, unless i get involved in the party scene. I (belive it or not)was a teenager too with the same pressures as you but after a car crash(no alcohol/drugs) & 84 stiches in my body i learned real fast to S L O W down and enjoy life. Best to kayla & jo jo.
