I thought I'd start a new forum for the Kingsport Pavilion since the other one had 365 posts.

I think it's about time. Too bad they have to tear the building down, though.

I think its pretty sad it takes until 2009 for a city the size of Kingsport to get an Olive Garden and Best Buy. And until what 2007-2008 to get a Target, Starbucks, etc. This is stuff towns the size of Kingsport have taken for granted for nearly a decade, if not more.

That being said i think an Olive Garden replacing the site of a former restaurant some what of a downgrade. Cootie Brown might not have been the best restaurant in town but it certainly was unique and added something different to Kingsport. The fact remains there are plenty of great if not better locations for Olive Garden to locate without having to run out existing restaurants. How about the many empty lots infront of the Pavilion? Why does a shopping center that size STILL not have a full service sit down restaurant? If Olive Garden built there we would have them AND Cootie Browns.

I dont find Olive Garden that great. The salad is pretty good and ill probably go for the salad and breadsticks deal. All the other food is pretty bland and tasteless. Johnny Carinos and Carrabbas are both better but Kingsport will never get them. They usually only build one per metro area so either our metro area doubles in size or they change their policy :(

Getting off my soapbox now, has anyone been past the pavilion lately? How is Zaxbys coming along? Anything new going up or any of the empty tenants in the couple of strip malls there being filled? I also saw there is a new Rue 21 going into the mall at the former Maurices location, any word if this is going to replace the other one or are both going to stay open.

Umm Cootie Brown's defaulted on their rent almost a year ago. The building is sitting empty and unused.

I like the news that an Olive Garden is going to be here. They're in other places where I have lived, and the food and the Ambience were great.
But like Cootie's,they are not all the same.I would really like to have a Red Lobster,a little closer to kpt. But I do'nt eat out that often,so it is'nt that big a deal

I understand what you mean. Its an eye sore for a building like that to sit empty, especially with the empty goodies building behind it. Its almost as if Olive Garden fells they need a location to be in the very well established high traffic restaurant row of town or else they will flop. Olive Garden could build just about anywhere in Kingsport and it would still be packed.

I know we have not heard much about the Pavillion in awhile except for Zaxby's almost done but i was looking at the builders website and came across these pics for phase 2 and it shows a movie theatre going in. It is listed as a Marquee conema if so i dont see the mall staying open. It also is showing as leased insted of being in yellow and available. These are very recent site maps because the photos show the grading being done for Zaxby's which just took place a month or two ago. Anybody heard anything on this?

Thanks Nick and VolGuy! By the way I zoomed in on one of the download maps and I noticed a "Sprint" sign listing as well for the shops right beside of Verizon.

So if that map pans out it looks like Sprint will be moving to the Pavilion and we'll have a movie threatre as well. This is great news!

How could you read that? Using photoshop or something? The resolution of the image is too poor for me cant read a thing.

How big do you think this new theater will be. Maybe 14 screens? It would be very nice to have IMAX and all 4k digital projection, although that's just wishful thinking. As of right now most films are not released in 4k, although that will change. The 2k projection at the mall right now is pretty incredible as it is.

I looked at the map in the PDF format at 100%. While grainy it looks like the word "Sprint" to me on the shops vertical to the Verizon building.

Well I just heard that RadioShack will be leaving the mall. They are to open 4th quarter this year at the shops behind the new Eastman Credit Location directly across from the Pavilion.
