I see a lot of comments and posts on topix about how bad this town is and how run down it has gotten. Also a lot of finger pointing at people. If you are truly upset by these things than get off of your computer and get out there and do something about it. What ever happened to Neighborhood watch? Looking out for the people who do live in this town. And do you have to get paid to grab a trash bag and pick up trash???? Come on people all I'm saying is that if the people of Colonial Beach really cared about the town and the people in it something would be done about it. It's called taking our town back. VOLUNTEER it won't hurt you. Adults don't need to be told how to clean up our streets... We can all do this together. I think that there should be someplace to "sign up" and organize maybe one day a week to all get out there and do something productive. We all can take responsibility for letting this town go. It's more than a couple people's fault so stop pointing fingers and do something to change it. Just saying!!

I agree with you Wondering. This town has started out the new year with a new council, a new out look, and already a change. This is just one of the changes citiizens had been demanding. Let's all join in a NEW attitude of cooperativeness, pride, and optimism for our town. One of the changes that has been discussed is a new volunteer program where hours are counted and volunteers will be acknowledged and appreciated. Join some committee, volunteer some time, give ideas, give whatever you have to offer, as long as it is positive energy. Now bring on the nuts and the other icons. But some of you may agree.

It gets old. I'd rather make change, HB.

It's nice to see that someone shares the same thought process! I hope this takes off and changes are in fact made. Any change for the positive is always a good thing :)

If you are truly interested in helping, now is the time to speak out.
At Thursday's meeting, the council adopted new by-laws.
Among the many changes were the disbanding of council member-only committees, which required a public meeting for them to meet.
There is now a designated POC for each area:
Public Works: Gary Seeber
Finance: Wanda Goforth
Economic Development: Tim Curtin
Administration: Jim Chiarello
Public Safety: Tommy Edwards
The POCs will be responsible for gathering input and/or help from whomever desires to give it.
They are free to do this however they see fit.
That could mean forming ad-hoc citizen committees, or some other method of their choosing.
The idea is to reach out to the community more than what has been the case in the recent past.
The monthly council work sessions (4th Thursday of each month) will be where the ideas are discussed and from which it is hoped a consensus will develop for action.
If you are interested in working with me, let me know.
As for the others, call Town Hall or speak with them yourselves.
