Does anyone know anything about the petition that's being circulated to hire a new town manager?

That must be what Walter Kern was babbling about at the last meeting.

All I know is Walter Kern went off stating that the "whole town was out of order" during the meeting. If there really is a petition, they need a better spokesperson!

The town manager make something like $80,000 a year! I'm not 100% sure about that number but I know fir a fact that she is very overpaid. She's not doing a very good job managing if you ask me. I mean she's the one in charge of the police department so there you go!

Can the Good Ole boys on town council stop any of her decisions.
I think so.
She cant do anything without their permission. She does not run this town, the council does.
Why dont you people realize she only does what the Town council approves of.
The petetion is only stupid people signing it. Rumors are she wants $25000.00 increase in salary, 1 month off to go to England, and a new car.
Go Back and look at Mayor Bones hires of Town Managers. I remember the last one took off 5 weeks before he even got to work and got paid for it. He refused to bring his son her to go to our schools. He went home every weekend which was Friday thru Tuesday. Bone hired several Qualified Managers. Town Managers from agencies to bring us qualified people. At a huge fee. I rest my case.If you have a problem with the Town Manager, look to the Town Council.
Thats where your problem is.

Observer,You are off the mark in many areas but the main one you are correct about is Council does it. Mayor Bone didn't hire any of them, they were all interviewed by Council and selected by Council and voted on at a Public Meeting by all of Council. So the connecting word is "Council". If you look at the Town Code the Town Manager is responsible for the day to day operations of the Town under the direction of Council. Also in Virginia there is what is called the Dillion Rule. In simple terms is says you can do whatever has been authorized by code and anything else you must ask. Also Council acts through Resolutions and Ordinance voted on in a public Council Meeting by all Council Member, not what each tell you to do or even in a committee meeting. It appears after talking to several Council Members actions are taken and even they don't know until after the fact, but since they haven't addressed the issues one would assume they condone the actions. Adding since no member has asked for a Closed Session to address any concerns again indicates they are happy or naive whichever.

Some of these morons at the Beach, think The Town Manager makes all the rules and laws. Its the elected council.
They dont have a clue what they are so upset about.
Or whom they should be upset with.

She holds the power because the Council has granted that power to her. But since it has been granted she does have the power to run the Town in the daily operation. Often the Council is unaware of her actions.

You are rude. Most know this, but citizens still need to let the Town Council know their feelings about some issues. A way to let the Council know, is with a petition. The Mayor and SOME council members like to ignore the spoken word, so written may be the only way to get their attention and remind them...they were elected (most) and we can un-elect them at the next election, and they are (should be) representing their constituents.

If you have a problem go to the Council Meeting and address it there and not on TOPIX.

We do but the Mayor won't let us talk. He says its a personal attack if we voice dissatisfaction. You must not attend the meetings or you would know this.

Look up the difference between Mayor-Council and Manager-Council types of government. Some of you seem to think we have Mayor-Council government. There is a great difference as to where the power lies.

There are a small few who have a gripe with the town and because they can't get their way they are leading a campaign against the town manager. These people are cowering behind topix and a petition. The rest are sheep being led by these fools.

This is the best town manager we have had in a long time. I pray the council doesn't have a knee jerk reaction to these nut cases!
