Is there any talk of having a dog park in Colonial Beach? Is there any city owned property that is not next to houses that might be used? There is no place to run a dog here and no place to socialize dogs to other dogs.

There have been many discussions about this already.

Apparently Robin Grove Park was once designated as a Dog Park. Not sure of it's current status.
Lastly, here's why a dog park is a bad idea: http://leerburg.com/dogparks.htm

we use to have the dawg house on the board walk but the cats ran the dawg away. I am sure thor art gallery will not mind you letting your 4 legget friends shit on her door step.

Wow...this is a real eye opener. I have used dog parks in Reston and Alexandria, but had a small dog at that time and noone was in the small dog parks so we were on our own. I also used the one in Fredericksburg once. It was with my new dog (golden). You are right, she was intimidated by the big dogs all roughhousing and spent the whole time with the people getting attention. I found out that day that the Fburg dog park is just for residents so I never went back.

I think I'll skip the dog park thing. If I want to socialize my dog I'll do it in a controlled environment (like on leash training programs and walking the neighborhood). And I will find a friend that lives on some land close by to let her take long runs. Fortunately I have a double lot fenced and can play with her there on a daily basis to exercise.

Thanks so much for opening my eyes.

Wow....no wonder we don't have dogs on the boardwalk or a dog park with attitudes like this. When I walk my dog I bring bags to pick up their poop, which they practically never do because I have a big yard. But at least I am prepAred.
