Anyone know where I can get abut 4 bushels of oyster shells for a landscape project? I am tired of picking them off the beach.

As you head out of town on 205, between Wilkerson's and the new bridge (on the right side of the road behind that small building) there's usually a lot of shells dumped in one place to make your task easier than picking up "singles" on the beach between Wilkerson's and the old Happy Clam location.
My mom and I have picked up several 5 gal. bucketfuls recently.

I wonder who they belonged to and what their intended use was.

CheckFirst, relax, they're discarded shells..obviously dumped there by someone... probably a local restaurant. Unless there was a mass oyster suicide where they shucked themselves out of their shells.

I don't think picking up shells counts in this case.

I love finding road treasure as much or more as the next person; but not when it's lying on PRIVATE property. Who knows what it is intended for. Maybe they are gathering shells for their own future landscape beautifying project (like in front of the Colonial Beach Musuem for instance).

For anybody who feels the need for picking up stuff that doesn't belong to them, try serving the community by policing up some trash and disposing of it properly.

A call to Town Hall should get you on the road to revealing the owner. It's a matter of public record.

I feel compelled to point out what has already been noted.

Going on the property of another without their permission is known in the legal world as trespassing.

Taking of anything not your own without the permission of the owner is known in the legal world as larceny.

Even if the property owner is unaware of the existence of the shells (or is, and doesn't care) why risk it, when it likely wouldn't take long to track them down and merely ask?

All I asked for was a source of oyster shells. I did not ask for a lecture or for everyone to assume that I would do anything illegal or shady. If you don't have a source for me, don't post anything especially quoting code that doesn't even apply.

Jeeze, what is wrong with you people.

Try Cowart Seafood Corp. Lottsburg Va. I bought two truck loads there last year.
