Anyone up to sharing your opinions of our
Local bars, clubs, and restaurants?

My personal favorite is High Tides. As close to being in the tropics with leaving the beach

Better off getting a HUGE sandwich or tasty steak to take home and cook from Kelly's (First Stop).

Coffee shop is good for lunches, as is Denson's. Never been disappointed with either one. We eat at Alan's Hunan weekly, always good. We usually take out of towners to Dockside and have never had a complaint. Not a fan of Hightides food or service, but I haven't been in long time because of the food and service!

Hightides is good, especially a good place when company comes calling. Ate at Dockside once, an early Wed evening last summer. The special was sold out and they were out of most of the stuff on the menu, we sat in the bar area and had a lovely floor show (not) of two drunks fondling each other (and that is being conservative). SeaSea great, Hunan good and Wilkerson good, can't wait to try Lighthouse.

Dockside is good, like Fat Freda's, and Hunan's.

High Tides is expensive for what it is. The food was not very good the couple times I have been in there, and the service was worse.

It's a shame that High Tides has such a great location, with a not so great place. I'll try them again this summer in hopes they have gotten better.

We have tried High Tides several times, each time the food was not that great and service even worse. Prices way too high.

The Sunday breakfast buffet is real good but too pricy for our budget, I and some friends have enjoyed the tiki bar a time or too.

Never liked Wilkerson, Dockside does have it's positive moments and food is usually good.

We've been to Fat Freda a few times, never had a complaint with the food, very good crab cake and stake & cheese sub.

Service not the best and for whatever reason, we don't enjoy the atmosphere or lack there of.

Dennison's is great...very good food, if you like good sandwiches and their specials. A tad high but as the saying goes, you only get what you pay for,

Often enjoyed Hunans too, but how often can you do Chinese on a weekly routine. Sadly, our favorite, long time waitress is no longer there.

Dockside is nice too, but one needs to plan the visit according to the daily menu special and the various bands.

River Boat needs to tune up it's strings...sometime great often it falls flat.

To Becky and Sam.....the long time waitress you refer to was fired for breaking wind in a costumers face.

High Tides or ambiance and view. Burgers and grouper sandwich are the best in town. bands good.

Dockside - Dining room is very dark and not a window can be seen out of. Prices are high. Service is ok.Back deck is great for ambiance and Friday night trivia is fun. Bands good.

Fat Fredas - Great sandwiches and salads! Excellent prices!

Hunan - Great food and service

Seaside - Great food. Prices high.

Lighthouse - Great food. Prices high.

Wilkerson's - Seafood buffet is overprices and not good variety. Scallops are awesome. Hushpuppies awesome. Service Excellent. Great ambiance and view.

Olas and Lenny's - good prices and great local color.

All in all, every restaurant has something I go to for. Each as something different to offer. It depends on what I want at the time.

Cindy Lou, you should get a job as a professional restaurant critic, You did a great job describing the many eateries in our wonderful town.

I especially liked how you reminded us that we have an either/or choice and a wide variety with each restaurant offering something for all taste.

My husband and I have been going to high tides for 7 years. It is where we first met. Last night we went there to celebrate our second wedding anniversary and had a terrible meal. He got the blackened salmon and it was not cooked all the way through. The past few times we have been there his steak was over cooked, ordered medium rare came out well done. I have always raved about their cheese burgers but the quality has gone down. The burger used to hang off the bun but is now hidden by it. It seems the quality has gone down but the price has gone up. As for my husbands salmon, against my wishes he ate it and was sick in the bathroom 3 times this morning. That is his fault for eating it!! However, we told the cook, waitress (old manager) and bartender as we were eating at the bar. There was no effort to compensate us and the $20 raw salmon was still on the bill. As I said before we have been frequenting High Tides since they opened. It holds sentimental value to us but we will never eat there again.

I know Alan and the long time waitress personally and she was not fired. She quit. Walked out in the middle of her shift. It was her choice as she was tired of dealing with the public. She had been in the industry for many, many years and had enough.

Hunan lover is correct. I too, have known them both for many years, The waitress did, in fact, chose to quit. And she is welcome back anytime she feels like going back.

Alan is a wonderful employe and treats his staff well. I know for a fact, Alan is just as much in the dark, as the rest of his regular customers, as to why she walked out. Knowing her and her entire family for over 15 years, I know something pretty heavy had to be one her plate to cause this.

It is very unfortunate that a very bad joke was posted on this Topix forum, at about the same time this happened, leading many readers to speculate as to what went down.

This should remind all of us to be a little more carful about the things we post on public forums, even in jest.
