Considering a move from the Town of Colonial Beach to Placid Bay Estates. I'd appreciate your comments. Thanks!

Why do you want to move? Your rationale will determine my answer.

I lived in Placid Bay for about 7 years. Lots of drug activity over there.

It depends on where in Placid Bay Estates you will be moving to. Somes areas are on the lower scale (no offense to anyone), and some are better (mostly by the water). Some are kinda in the woods do that really does not matter. Anywhere you go in the entire Westmoreland County area though will have drug issues here and there. Don't let that discourage you. Just watch where you move to Placid Bay.
Keep in mind that the recent arrests of the so-called drug king-pin(s) took place in that area.

The best thing to do is drive thru the area you want to move to during the evening hours and see what kind of neighborhood it really is. Also, talk to the West. Co. Sheriff's Office and see what kind of calls they get in the area. Good luck.

Some areas are ok as others have stated. Just know alot of dirt roads too that are not the best to travel. Have several friends that live there and I hear their pros and cons. Be aware of the areas that are prone to flood on occasion. Good luck with your decision.

I own a nice weekend house in Placid Bay.(We live couple hours away). You get more house/land for your dollar in the county, than in town. The same house in town will cost a little more, and more tax. BUT, I decided to rent out the Placid Bay house and buy a house in town...and I'm SO GLAD I did. Because of rowdy rude (drunk) redneck renters (MANY RENTALS!) around Placid Bay, and it seems like EVERYONE lets their big dogs run loose, attacking other dogs, and I saw one German Shepherd with a cat it killed in it's mouth. They will NOT tolerate that in the town.(However this of course doesn't apply to everyone in PBE. I did meet a couple of nice people.) But in my experience,it's typically a little more upscale in town, if you tend to care about that. Plus you can walk to the beach, to dinner, bands, or have a drink. Most walk around town, or ride bikes or golf you wave and chat with people more, it's SO much better for us.

My real estate agent wanted me to move into Placid bay. When I went out there all I saw was dried out grass, big wheels, and swing sets. Being retired I did not want that community. I eventually bought in CD. Well worth the extra tax.
I can walk to the Post Office, bank, 7-11 around the point, church etc. I do not have to get in my auto to get a loaf of bread. The views of walking around the water is fantastic. CB is not for everyone, but is sure is for me. Don't forget that when I cant walk, I can drive my golf cart to all the places above. Including the Food Lion Center. You have to make that decision, no one else should make it for you. Do they have sewer in Placid Bay yet???

If you are considering a move that way you might want to look at Ebb Tide or Berkley Beach. Not far from Placid Bay but IMHO, nicer area with their own Beach.

Wholeheartedly agree on either Ebb Tide or Berkeley. Placid Bay is plagued with rowdy renters and they have an arson issue and roads are still messed up from when their dam burst and sent trees and debris into Mattox Creek when T.S. Lee rolled through a couple of years ago.

Now that you mentioned the Dam, PB is been declared a special Tax District to help pay for the Dam, keep that in mnd

I look at this website every now and then but Geeez there is always quite the plethora of negative comments on this site! I have lived in Placid Bay for several years and I LIKE IT!! They are in process of paving several more roads and starting dam repairs (in fact the 'back' smaller dams were fixed by the water company and volunteers not the state) and I am here only to say that there are no "Mayberry" towns anymore, anywhere, and your home is what you make of it. ALL areas have issues, but I have seen way less than what I dealt with in Mont County. Orig. poster, can you drive thru, talk to a few people and decide on your own rather than relying solely on this site to decide. I lived in 'town' for awhile and between the double taxing, and everyone seeming to always be nosen in your business I am much happier here. Good luck to you in your search, it is only 9 miles to town and we have HALLS MARKET to shop in so its all good! One negative to Ebb Tide and further is you trade off the lower house prices for a longer drive to get that milk late at nite, lol. And lets try to have a happy day with a good attitude, your life is what you make it people...:)

One more comment....dogs running at large.....I have always had a speedy and efficient response from Tommy our Westmoreland County animal control officer. Pleasant, responsive and kind. If you see a bloody dog a running by, CALL THEM, that's what they are for! It is far easier to whine and complain than to be pro-active that's for sure! Twice I have "secured" dogs at large on my porch and both times he not only got them, but found their grateful-to-get-the-pet-back owners (and they were not locals either)I will say tho, it did take him several hours once to get back to me since he was 'down river' catching an errant cow!! Did make for a good story when he finally got there and only cost me a bowl of dog food and some water, try this next time and see if it works for you too.
are you kidding me

For the people on here bashing PB saying it has a drug problem are you kidding me?? In the town limits of CB drugs are a huge problem and nothing is done about it. Just go to 7-11 and you can see a drug deal right across the street on jackson and franklin st anytime of the day. Placid Bay like all places has good residents and bad residents and better areas than others but to claim it has worse problems than the town of CB is crazy.
