Since We are on the subject of the American Legion I would like to find out about the plans top improve the upper floor that the use .That building has the most possibilitys of any location in Colonial Beach ,it has water front property and a pier and yet I have been told that the upper floor is going to be improved without using the view. The new bar when you sit at it you will be facing Hunan Diner instead of the million dollar river view. Please reconsider and open the river front view going out to the deck,it would make it the hotest destination on the river and bring in big revenue.I hear that the mechanicals or heat pump may be the problem but it would not take that much to move that.In the spirit of the Legion our warriors did not go around things just because it was a little easier why should We?

Recall good times there in the 60's for teenagers with the sock hops. Provided an alternative to just wondering around.
Glad to see Web used to communicate. Need to tie into veterans sites to provide useful info and maybe become a "go to" comunity info site also.
Good luck with any business plan that grows your organazation.
You have to spend time to keep it fresh so people return to find whats new.

Imagine the top floor open to a riverview with glass doors that lead out to a deck and then maybe in the future when events are held in the parking lot people would also utilize the deck area.Making more profit to ofset a little more in construction.Maybe after that something could be done with the pier.Juat Imagine

Consider is on the button!!!!!!! IF the post was remodeled on the top floor to provide full view of the Potomac River across the upper level deck it would be the envy of Every Legion Post in Virginia and many more as well. The opportunity for this is huge, as you already own one of the most desireable properties in Colonial Beach. Developer would die to have it.I have only been to one post with this kind of scenic view and it was in Flordia overlooking Tampa Bay. This post was always full of members and guest. It would be the show piece and Legion pride of Colonial Beach, VA.
Please consider the potential that this post has.

Sounds like you want to go somewhere with this. Find out what restrictions (permits ordnances etc) you need to deal with. I visited a organazation on Oahu that had Beach Front Property and they were doing quite well, but I am sure a lot of ground work had to be done to get it set up. Good luck!

From what I gather, this has been a debate for quite some time. Not having a vote myself, i cannot go into great detail. I can tell you that the Commander has requested of the membership to be at next months meeting to further discuss and vote on the bar design. we all would love to have the view, it just doesn't seem feesable for at the time.

I am under the impression that the air handlers are on the river side of the building , that would not be that big of a deal to relocate. The benefit of doing this would greatly out do the cost. Please dont take the easy way out who wants to sit at a bar with the view being the back of the medical center and hunan diner .This is a diamond in the rough with a little insite ,money and effort this could be the Crown Jewel of Legions.

Think about a large social meeting hall and bar overlooking the river with glass doors maybe a stone fireplace as you look towards the river for winter then as you walk out on the deck a tiki bar and a pier across the boardwalk for boats to dock with nite lites and maybe a band stage

Find out if it has legs with the membership, do a 2/5 year plan.(short/long term) That is a primo location and you might be able to drive revenue from it in the summer/fall that might support a worthy cause or just offset maintenance or operational cost. Any jobs created would be appreciated by the teens, or retirees who will get squeezed this summer by inflation. The Hawaii location I visited churned income into site improvements and was quite plush. Should you decide to pursue a "Big Improvement" watch out for opposing rice bowls.

Would the person who judged this post clueless, nuts, and disagree please let me know who you are? I think you and I have some issues to be resolved. Thank you.

I think you have a troll running around from recent post on other topics. That was quite popular back when NSF (1990's) owned the net. I doubt it's bored academics today. There were strict rules back then but no GUI for the non-technical masses (DOS/Green screen)
That was good info for legion members who might not be aware of the agenda.

If the financial means are not avalible can money be borowed against the building with that type of improvement it seems like the money will come back in more people using the club.It can't cost that much more to relocate the heat pumps ,aren't they old and maybe due for an upgrade anyway?

Thanks, I think you're right. It's an important meeting, especially given some of the comments mentioned above. Some members, like myself, remember things by association, hence the reference to Groundhog Day as a tickler.

Anyone that frequents the American Legion knows the details. It doesn't matter who you are or who you live with! This is a milestone for the Legion and a very important decision. Yes, I have an opinion and a voice but not a role that has any impact. I am well aware that I am only a Guest of the Post. Please pay attention to the comments. As expressed earlier, there is a meeting next month to vote on this topic. I think those who do have a voting voice and have opinions should be present to further this venture on. My initial comments were to only inform of this!
