The area should be either a park, in concert with the wishes of the folks who donated to the town for public use, OR sold to someone with the funding to create an upscale, boutique Inn and Spa.
The latter offers more income to the town than a residential area---a business would pay property taxes, plus lodging taxes and food taxes. What a great idea!

Didn't there use 2 be a spa, tanning spot in the condos last summer or so??It was at the end on the right looking at the building,it just lasted one summer I think. Still think we need something the kids young and teens can go and be safe close to home,or a movie theater, something for families to do when they come for the summer trips.(small theater not a large over size)

There was the beginning of a Spa, but the town leaders scared them away. Hell no on movie theater. Visitors can do movies at home on various electronic devices or go to movie theaters where their permanent residence is, now averaging $9-11 a show. There are so many things kids can do, if parents take responsibility---boating, kayaking, fishing, swimming, scouts, church groups, bicycling, scrabble, solitaire, read, etc.. For older ones, take them to Trivia at Dockside or Idol at Riverboat. Don't forget the library, Westmoreland Berry Farm, Westmoreland State Park to hunt for sharks teeth, walking with the family, reenactments at Strattford Hall and George Washington's Birthplace. Give me a break.

Think about this ==> On the left side of the park a splash park for the kids, joggin trail running in and out, picknick huts with grills, chess & checker tables, boccie ball courts, and shuffle board courts (2), Parking on lossing side. What do you all think!!! What do YOU WANT! Think about what we would like and we should all get together and go to the next meeting and tell the town. This is our town we make should control what is done!!! Rock and Roll!!

How about building a multi-functional building with donated funds from citizens. Used for senior events, town functions, music events at no or low costs, park outside, fenced for use by citizens. Built and designed by citizens with citizen funds and NOT turned over to the town to manage as they have managed our donated stage, which we have a very difficult time using.

We could use the building for regional art shows, Lions Club functions, other club functions, rentals perhaps by citizens, and should be run by a volunteer organization. We should have enough talent in our town to solicit architectural design, landscape design, building assistance, for the people, by the people.

There are places all over town that can accomodate
the activities you mention. For one, the property that the Lions use could handle all.

That building is also targeted for sale in the future. What other buildings can be used?

WOW! Eleanor Park (On The Point)
Is the point, if we don't change the way we think or change what we do nothing will stop or save the last open space we have on the water. This topic was and still is Eleanor Park. It needs to be something our kids will see and remember it for what is was. We really need to stand together on this one. WE NEED TO TAKE AFIRM STAND! This is our town! Doesn't anyone care!

Agree with most of this, just would like to see a senior/multi-functional building included with some of these plans. My suggestion is to keep it a park also, but with a building that can be used by the citizens. Maybe even add a pier someday.

The school buildings, the American Legion, the churches, the Eagles --- it's called community service.

Schools were not available when we checked before. Eagles, American Legion, etc. all have smoking and want to charge, except for gospel music at the Moose. Also some people reluctant to attend where there is drinking. Not as easy as you think, but if you would rather than it be sold for houses, money going into general fund, and never seen again, so be it.

What other town the size of Colonial Beach DOESN'T have a general function room to hold at least a third of it's citizens for events.

A third better start looking at like the Riverboat. Wasn't last resident count around 3600 and that's not counting the summer homes and week-endrs which are all citizens. Building would have to accomidate approximately 1300. Town Center sign indicateds 175 person so you need something with about 8 times more space.

We have 2 parks on the point already that are hardly used on a regular basis. We don't need another one!

A building paid for by the residents (any building) would cost more than the permanent residents can afford, there would be liability, it would have to be managed so there would have to be a managing body to handle the business of the building, there would need to be security...the list get longer.

Wonder if there is grant money out there to build and then manage a senior citizen center or a general community center.

However, the Eleanor property would not hold a huge building and still leave room for enough parking...any event of say 100 people would have to have parking for 50. Site is too small. Lions club site might be a good spot (tear down the rat trap and build new).
