It was announced Shane is resigning from the Town Council, NUMBER 4 OH MY GOD ho embarrassing for the town. He apparently is going to work with Montross Police Part time. A much more rewarding position than town council, I think its a hoot other than embarrassing what the hell will people think. They interviewed a few good people last time than they pick someone with no background in management just because he was a "YES" man.(Sorry Tommy). SHOULD BE A MESS AS USUAL. ehousebakery com

So, why did he leave his Council position. One can be a cop and a member of Council. Part time employment shouldn't necessitate resignation. right?

Well if these people are considered pro-growth, the required reading list gives a clue. I'm not up on your politics but a lot of pieces came together recently for me. Anyone who would have investment plans would pull back and wait to see how things transpire in future planing. Uncertainty creates doubt. From what I gather the pieces have been available for a LONG time, but just recently lit the bulb! These same pieces may have retarded potential or been in the pocket of low growth advocates the whole time. They are probably trying to supress their giggles as I type :)

The man has a full time job, now a part-time job which will necessitate additional schooling. Better he resign than miss most meetings as Curtin does.

Montross does not have a police department. He going to be an auxilery deputy with the Westmoreland County Sheriffs Office.

Busby hardly ever shows up for any of his committments. Good luck Sheriff Dept. One good thing, Busby does know where and who are the drug people in CB.
Whatever happen to the rumor of Chief Hawins joining the Sheriff Dept. We need him desperately.

Haven't figured out how being a volunteer not be paid and working random hours causes him to resign.
But guess if you have to have a excuse this is good as any.

The drive time is about 20 minutes on a busy day. It must be something else I hope.

An old councilmember told me one time that he'd rather run for Congress, as the scrutiny and negativity would be mild in comparison. Maybe he was tired of his votes (which is to be expected) but his personal life being attacked, like many other good folks on council have experienced. Who knows..but I'm noticing a trend.

I'm going to speak out on this, because there is a lot of ill-informed stuff being said here that needs to be addressed.

First: No reasonable person should be calling into question Shane's loyalty or motives. His past contributions to the community as a Town employee and his civic involvements speak for themselves. I do not believe for a second he would have run for council had he suspected this opportunity had a realistic chance of occurring while he were in office. He will likely continue to be active in other civic affairs that he was doing before he was elected to council. I also don't believe for a second there are any other reasons for him leaving right now.

Second: The committment Shane is making in taking this position is sufficient to make it impossible for him to completely fulfill his council responsibilities and the required training he will have to complete over the next year.

He will have to complete all the requirements for DCJS certification a full-time officer does.
That is two part:
1-The Academy. He will have to be enrolled in a DCJS-certified academy within one year of appointment (that's the law).

The full-time Law Enforcement Officer Basic Course (as shown on the training schedule of the RRCJA website) is about 19 weeks long, Monday-Friday.

The Auxiliary Law Enforcement Basic Course (not reflected on the RRCJA website, but I believe it starts in April 2012) is 6PM-10PM Tuesday and Thursday nights, and 8AM-4PM Saturdays. That normally runs for nearly a year.

2-He will have to complete post-academy documented field training under the supervision of a DCJS-certified Field Training Officer just like a full-time officer would in order to be fully certified. That will likely take several weeks.

The evening classes are mandatory, meaning he would miss every council/committee meeting during that period. Lack of attendance at three consecutive meetings is grounds for removal. Council had to enforce that several years ago to compel the resignation of a member that stopped coming to meetings.

I know these things because I am an instructor and FTO.

With his full-time job, family etc. and you will see that he is in for one hell of a busy year.

On a side note- I suggest any of you that still don't understand why Shane is doing all this need to go talk with a current or former cop you respect. Ask them about the job, the draw it has on you, and how it is so hard to get it out of your system if you leave the profession. They will likely tell you that it never really leaves you. I believe that is why Shane is going for all this. I don't need for him to tell me this-I know from personal experience. He likely misses the job, and sees this as a way to keep his foot in the door without having to sacrifice his full-time job that likely has better pay/benefits than he would get if he became a full-time officer again.

Cut him some slack, OK?
