It will not be open on March 1. Could be 10 to 20 days later or more. Will be open by April 1.

I drove down to the bridge this weekend to take a look and it doesn't look like they will be finished by Friday. The large crain is still up, jersey walls on the sides of the bridge aren't complete and the road leading to the bridge must still be leveled and paved. I also emailed the Vdot project manager asking for an update and they never responded.

it was my understanding that the contractor gets fined 5k per day for going beyond the projected end date , now this is a stretch but what do they do with that money , maybe disperse it to the commuters that are spending more fuel and time and wear and tear on there vehicles to drive around the delayed construction , hahaha that'll be the day
yea right

Ask the right people and ye shall receive....
I e-mailed the vdot communications person directly and this is the information I received verbatum
I apologize for the lack of information on the project website. We had been planning on a Friday, March 1 opening as scheduled, which is why we hadn't posted any new information.
We did receive new information today. We believe there will be a one-week delay opening Route 205 to traffic at the Tides Mill Stream bridge in Westmoreland County. The detour is now likely to be in place through Friday, March 7. We experienced a delay in the delivery of the beams necessary to build the bridge, which caused a slight delay in the project’s schedule. We regret that this detour will be in place for several additional days.
We are finalizing information with construction officials on site today, and we plan to issue a news release tomorrow once we have official, confirmed information. This is the best information I can provide to you today. We will be happy to send this news release to you directly, and we will also update the project website to reflect the new date for the detour to be lifted.
Best regards,

Do you think the Project manager has time to sit around and answer e-mails all day?

This information is correct... Just got a call from a Scott S. at VDOT and due to at least 3 rain events and the long stretches of cold at night they have been running heaters to help cure the concrete. I was also informed that as of this time there is no sheduled work to Pamona Road behind Hall's. Scott said he would jump on Topix tonight after meeting and post an update. He was thinking at the time that it would be open the end of the first week in March (approx the 7th)... the next project is to be the bridge on Rt 205 going towards Oak Grove, the Mattox Bridge.

VDOT originally promised that any construction not finished within the projected four-month closing would be shoulder work and would not hinder the re-opening of the bridge to thru traffic.
The bridge was originally scheduled to reopen March 1, and Dave Brown says that the work is right on schedule. He reported to Town Manager Val Foulds on Tuesday, however, that the bridge will be open in early March. Brown said he was being conservative, in case of inclement weather that may delay the project’s completion.
The project was originally delayed by one day due to Hurricane Sandy, but officials stated that the delayed start would not impact the March 1 completion date.
The detour will continue to be designated as Route 631 (Longfield Road) until the bridge project is complete.

Here's the press release:

ROUTE 205 DETOUR TO CONTINUE FOR ONE WEEK

Ridge Road in Westmoreland County will now open to traffic on Friday, March 8

FREDERICKSBURG – Route 205 (Ridge Road) in Westmoreland County will open to traffic at the newly rehabilitated Tides Mill Stream bridge on Friday, March 8.

The bridge has been closed to traffic since November 2, 2012. Traffic has been following a detour route on Route 631 (Longfield Road).

The detour was scheduled to be lifted by Friday, March 1. The opening has been delayed one week due to a delay in the delivery of beams needed to complete the bridge deck.

The beams have been delivered and installed, and paving work to complete the project will take place next week.

The project is still on schedule to be finished by March 15. Motorists should expect occasional single lane closures during daytime hours until this date.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is performing a major rehabilitation of the bridge, which is structurally deficient. The bridge was built in 1933.

This project rehabilitated the bridge's superstructure, as well as made minor repairs to the concrete substructure of the bridge.

A contract for this $3.7 million project was awarded to Bryant Contracting, Inc.
