Hello all: Wow! The billowing response to Pee Wee''s passing is quite beyond what he might have imagined or hoped for.
He would have been delighted.
The beach will be a bit lonelier now, without him, but he made his mark in the lives of many of us and will not soon forgotten. May he rest in peace.
God bless

Thanks Tim that give me an idea of who we were speaking to.
I worked all 3 papers back in the 60's so I knew of him or his family. I hope Mr Atwell does Rest In Peace.
I like "fixture" too, my brother would have fit into that catagory. I might have had to terminate my employment and returned to CB as a care giver if Colonialo Beach was a different read.

You're welcome. The kind remarks about this gentle soul, and quick defense of him in his passing should remind us all of that people that just go through their lives trying to "keep on keeping on" do make an impression on others around them.

A sad day for Colonial Beach. PeeWee Atwell was one of the beloved characters of the town. He made an impact on us in his own way. Now it's time to join Mrs. McKenny, Bozo, Teddy, Eddie Starkey, Gus Wise, Petie Miller, and Henry as a warm memory of Colonial Beach. RIP all.

I heard there wasn't even standing room at the furneral home because of all the people who showed up to show their respect and many got up and spoke heartfelt words on his behalf. PeeWee would have been thrilled to know he was so well loved by this town! RIP

Great article, it speaks volumes to the terms rural and quaint when applied to the CB/NN region. The good news is that the characteristics scale up but the connections get blurred in a larger context.
