collinsville is a total cesspool!!!!

case in point..look at all the saggy pant hoodlums that live in the apartment building by the video store and gas station on main street!!!!

or the apartments by the mcdonalds by the ketchup bottle...

how about the ghetto behind the aldis?

the playground back there looks warm and inviting, but the drug dealing is a dead give away...

you say that you want the police to help?

WAIT!!!

when some fat bastard from out of town drives through and lies about a prior drug conviction...you all band together against the police when they crack the guys balls and go through his car?

feck you all...you deserve what you live in...

Give those apartments they keep building out on 157 a few years and the same situation will happen. Take a look at Spanish Lake for example. They had the nicest apartments but like all apartments they get old and then the decline sets in
Wait and see if the Mayor gets his way and expands that trailer court on Sand Road to 300 units. Then the real decline will set in starting at the schools. Hightower was against it but now seems silent on the issue. Perhaps with the breakup of the Y's latchkey program Hightower will become more vocal again

I'm sorry Collinsville has better things to do with their money than to tear down state housing and rebuild it like GC did with Kirkpatrick Homes. We don't want people to get comofortable with their free housing, destroy it, and understand that we will build them something nice and new afterwards.

Seriously, you just named all the slums in Collinsville. Every town has them, just some towns have MORE of them.

And you think that expecting someone to gentrify themselves and their neighborhood for you doesn't deplete society in some way?
My relatives settled there before there was even a town there. They got there in 1810. I grew up there.
There were always people there who had problems, but the real stuff didn't start until all the folks from St. Louis and East St. Louis moved in.
When the town was real small, there was a network of support. We were German, Italian, Black, Irish, or French and we all felt like it was our responsibility to take care of each other, even when we didn't like each other that much.
Since then there have been a bunch of people move in who don't feel any responsibility whatever toward their neighbors or their neighborhood. They feel like if they've bitched about something, they have made forward progress. Sure, their grass is cut, they have their house painted, but they need to do something about their inner selves.
If your neighbor is sick, do you cut their grass without being asked? Things like that make the difference.
If you want to live in a different environment, change yourself.

Collinsville is suffering the same plight that towns do when they allow large rental housing complexes to pop up. Single family rentals is one thing; multi-family is another. Look at St Louis; projects that included Pruitt-Igoe and the Webbe Complexes. Read the recent article on Spanish Lake Missouri that allowed a large apartment complex, then as it got older as they all do and became a section 8 haven. Today Collinsville's nice apartment complex by the catsup bottle seems to have fallen into the same fate. Regardless of the whys it seems that this is the usual end result of multi family housing. Perhaps before your and neighboring cities continue to allow these complexes the voters should contact their elected officials and voice opposing opinions. If the politicians do not listen get some new ones.

What do you know about Belleville Eagle Realty and its owner Gail D. Mitchell Jr? He has rented his rental house (which is next to me) to criminals.

Hate to break it to you, Granite City didn't build those new appts in place of Kirkpatrick Homes, Madison County did. So, if you're a tax payer, you did pay for it...

Projecting the future my prediction is that in 20 to 30 years those apartments along 157 in Edwardsville will go the way of section 8. Why shouldn't they? Every other so called upscale complex has in this area. One of the most dangerous comments I ever hear these days goes along the lines of "well this is different." It is no different. The good news Collinsville is though that those apartments being in another city might just save Collinsville at the expense of Edwardsville.

Luckily they are widening 159 to allow the malcontent to leave easier. All great towns that are not run fiscally responsibly always become was great towns then get out of towns.
