I'll be in Collinsville on Friday and Saturday, and I'm looking for a cheap motel. Any suggestions?

I'm traveling from mid-Missouri for the Indian Market. Also, I'm kind of young- just turned 30- so what does the area have for fun and entertainment?

You should look at the youtube report on a man that was hassled by the Collinsville police as he left a StarTrek convention.
My advice would be to avoid the Collinsville-Edwardsville area
Watch the youtube. The part I like the best is where the drug dog didn't bark so the cop gave the dog the signal to bark, then claimed that the dog was barking for drugs to justify searching the persons car.

It sounds like a corrupt town. Are there any nearby towns, like maybe Pocahontas, that have halfway decent motels? I don't know the area very good at all. I'd prefer something mom and pop style since those are usually cheaper lol

Thanks Paul for the advice.

Pocahontas does have a small restaurant and motel right off the highway. The Powhatan is the name I believe. I don't think you will find a lot of night life there though so I wouldn't expect much in the way of entertainment.

most cheap motels are where pedos live at on a need to stay basis...

Thanks for all of your input. I don't think I will be checking into any. I think I'll just drive back the same day.

The cheapest one I can think of is the Cardinal Inn in Highland IL, it's only about 40 a night. A little outdated, but clean.

Sounds to me like the pedos are employed as DARE officers in the Edwardsville polic department and school district

The city of Collinsville is not as bad as people would lead you to believe. I have lived here 20 years and my only contact with the police is 1 well deserved speeding ticket.
The city of Collinsville has several hotels all similiar to Holiday Inn prices. The hotels can be found on/near HWY 157 which is about 6 minutes from Cahokia Mounds. There are many local activities depending on your interests. Bring a bike we have wonderful trails. See a 3-D IMAX movie in nearby Edwardsville. Visit the many museums and attractions just 20 minutes away in St. Louis. What kind of music and food do you like? I can find you any ethnic dish within 30 minutes of Collinsville. Friday's South has great pizza for a little pocket money. There is even a country music dance club right in Collinsville.
Give the city a chance, I promise you will be pleased.

Thanks! I ended up staying at the Motel 6, and I found Collinsville to be AWESOME!!! I've been to the mounds several times, but this was my first venture into the city. I had fun.

The weather sucked lol. It rained way too much. That didn't stop me from exploring the mounds. I went ahead and rode my bicycle anyway.

I am so glad you decided to take a chance on the city. Sorry about that rain. I make no claims about the weather. Good pizza yes...good weather, not so much.

After driving for almost 2 hours, making a wrong turn and getting lost in the Arnold region, getting a flat tire in the pouring rain on I-55 on the the outskirts of Arnold, and then having to find a Walmart to fix my flat, I was so glad to see Collinsville. The truth is I didn't know if Collinsville would be 1,000 people or 50,000, but I'm glad I took the chance and went anyway. It turned out to be a lovely municipality, and the fact that there was a Saint Louis Bread and Walmart right across the street from my motel was a huge blessing :) I will definitely be back in a few months.

What's the story with dive motel right by the mounds? Not the RV park, but the little motel past the mouunds?

Sorry you had so much trouble getting to Collinsville. I'm glad you liked it after you made it. I was raised in the area. As all towns Collinsville has it's bad parts, but for the most part it's a great place. My Dad runs in the Italian Fest. race every year. One of my cousins was a wrestler out of Collinsville(@ Mizzo now). Anyway Blachsheep, good to hear things went well for you after you made it there. RR:)
