I love a good fire department parade but I have to agree with MAB that these days with fuel costs going nuts that a parade with multiple vehicles going very slowly is a waste of fuel and money. Maybe the fire departments can just march along with bands etc. and cut down or eliminate the big trucks and other vehicles. I hate the thought but we must be thrifty these days.

Given attitudes like that, I guess I won't be spending any more of my personal gas money to volunteer - it's just gotten too expensive to roll out of bed at night, interrupt my family time during the day, and miss out on holidays given the current cost of fuel.

Can't wait to see all of our tax bills when the towns in CT have to start going to full time, career, paid departments cause the volunteers can't afford it anymore.

stop whining as it is YOUR decision to volunteer. And my point is completely different.A parade is not an emergency. We did just have a parade.

You ignorant trolls.

First off the parade was on Memorial Day to commemorate the veterans who have served our country so well. If a little diesel is burned to honor those that have protected our country then so be it. Quit your whinging.

Secondly this isn't a parade its a carnival that is a fundraiser for the FD. Rides, food, games. Don't like it, stay home.

Talk of the parade was in the works 3 years ago, finally approved this year. FD has no control over fuel costs, besides it is purchased on state bid, significantly lower than the average joe pays. Make the FD members feel proud by showing up and waiving, a smile goes a long way when your not getting paid.

how much $ really is burned up in fuel for a slow ride around the block, is it a $1000? If so, i don't care, i like fire trucks and at least i get to see my taxes instead of the mysterious void they usually go to.

Daily Horoscope for December 7

Capricorn

The detail-oriented Moon in Virgo is extremely supportive and helpful, so it feels good to know that you can count on some support. You may know just where the help is coming from, but with communicative Mercury all over transformative Pluto in your sign, maybe you're being looked after by your very own guardian angel. Don't let this encourage you to take foolish risks or overstep the mark.
