This IS exciting! Nice place to walk and commune with nature. Would love Gowanda to have a dog park like Hamburg does.(They have one for small dogs and another for large).

Gowanda has so much to offer. Hope it continues on this upward trend :)

Cool. Maybe someday I will retutn to Gowanda and check it out. I can still recall how polluted the Cattaraugus Creek used to be back in the 70's.

Good that the polluters were shut down..too bad West Valley Nuclear remains upstream. They area should be left natural..not made into a park. NYS has a large MUA area for the public.Gowanda doesn't need another [email protected],

WTF That's all that is needed a GD dog park on a hazardous waste landfill. Take your children down and let them play in the chrome and arsenic. And maybe they can have a community vegetable garden also. I can see everyone communing with nature with the cow hides, horse hair and all the other critter
gizzards that have been buried there over the decades. Maybe a B&B type hotel in the old offices too!! Yes we need more playgrounds on landfills. We can all dance naked in the moon light and commune with mother nature.

Dick Helm- Where else will the kids be able to play? There really isn't any other places!Sure, you have St. John's park, but that seems like a better place to go to if your a lonely married person looking for an afternoon fling. You might say the park on Miller St. is the place to go...if you enjoy watching the across the street neighbors smoke dope and drink beer, or wanting to learn some new vulgar words. I know!,the Thatcher Brook ball field...nope, the village is trying to cover up the polluted grounds from the old AVM business. But! the kids sure would enjoy the Dingman trolley going clickity-clack!The Creekside,or the Riverside park..still not sure of the name,I've seen it both ways! This would be the perfect park-like setting for the kiddies, ever though it doesn't have all of the beat up swings and slides. It does have one of the main short cuts for the in-house,out patients of the former State hospital strolling by.We do have 2 Veterans parks, the 1 next to the Persia Town hall, it is a bit small, and the new and improved veterans park across from a gin mill...don't worry someone will plant trees to block the view of the mighty Cattaraugus river. The Gateway park...not sure how you get to Zoar from there...will be a great place for little Jimmie and little Suzie to find the Serpent Gowanus

Yup! Every town needs a park for their children to play on arsenic covered ground! I dont care what they do to it..it is what it is! I could not believe the P.S. article when they made a hole in the breakwall & called them stairs!! Did you ever see them? An afterthought is what it was- on the part of an over zealous project manager! Its a wonder nobody's been hurt using them.I wasn't aware that you can do anything you want along the creek bed...did D.E.C. approve that?? Oh by the way...the only way you can get to Zoar MUA. from there is through private land that is posted though the park people want the public to believe its not! Eventually this park project will cost the taxpayers a bundle ..wait & see!

I don't believe any of you, you are just being mean. I always walk my puppy there now and my children ride their bikes there all the time and they are perfectly OK. I am sure our mayor would not let this happen if it were true. And it hasn't cost us any money because of the grants that Heather got for us.

How sweet it is for you to defend them but you better get with the program going on here! Grants are funding it now to build it..Gowanda will end up maintaining it & the taxpayers will eventually end up paying for that.Do you want a commercial area there? Storefronts are empty downtown! Maybe you could volunteer to clean the restrooms as long as you are there walking around...save the village some $$!! In a few years it will be full of graffiti & G.A.R.C will be making a plan for the contaminated AVM grounds..maybe a skatepark.Something stupid for sure. Get real!!

Don: The AVM company was a machine shop located near Thatcher Brook(off of Torence Street)Somehow the village owns part of that polluted property too! Seems like the morons that run the village enjoy putting more and more folks in Gowanda at risk.

Ha! Thats funny! GARC is Gowanda Area Redevelopment Corporation...it is a group of people who think of ways to improve Gowanda...even tho some of them dont even live in the village...then they apply for grants to help pay for this stuff...pretty slick huh? Thats why we're getting a toxic waste dump park...that's why the veterans memorial parking lot is across from a bar.$100,000 for that! Nice huh? Oh yeah its got a sidewalk so you can look at the creek! Someday we may have a river walk like San Antonio Texas! The list is endless!! Mr.Mike is a member of the GARC CORP. The tree Guy is Phil I believe he's related to Johnny Appleseed.....'

It is a nice place to walk and commune with nature, all of you are just picking on me and are mad that Heather was reelected Mayor. She has wonderful plans for the new park and I for one can't wait to see how nice this area will be. And I hope a B&B and a dog park will come to add to the beautiful village we have.

Why is the Veteran's Park on South Water St. not on the other side of the creek on the American Legion land and South Water St. left as a parking lot for the businesses in that area so they're not all crammed in on the street or having to park in the Burger King parking lot?

Veterans park, that's just great, even the vets are pissed off about another stone memorial they were talked into buying for the parking lot. They couldn't believe what the stone cost them in front of the library and now they were asked to pay for yet another one. Rumor has it that he has cleaned out the VFW and the Legion's memorial funds. Oh yeah I forgot, I wasn't supposed to mention that fact.
