I'm not familiar with Hamric so I have no idea if this is a good move for either town. BUT,...for everyone's benefit let's hope he accomplishes more than simply backing into hiding places and handing out speeding tickets. For example, what about catching rapists, even killers, drug runners/sellers, kidnappers, etc. This requires a "little" more effort and sense than being laid back in a cop car. Sure, we need police,...but not the racketeers!

How many officers does Rossville have anyway? Is Hemric going to add more?

Hello "Oakland citizen,.. can't say that I know about the number of officers but maybe we can get someone from Rossville to post. I just go thru that area about twice a week and seem 'em backed into their little "slots."

Nawh,...don't think so at least not all the time. I've seen 'em too many times with their pretty blue lights shine'n runn'n up and down Hwy. 57. Almost as bad as Piperton!

I hope Im not starting anything but I heard that the Chief in Oakland was bringing over the officers from Rossville. Is this true? How many officers do we have in Rossville? Well I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.

I'm hearing the same rumors. Either Hamric is cleaning house or people decided they couldn't take it anymore. I wish someone could tell us for sure!

Both. From what I can tell, Draper & a couple of the part-timers are the only ones left from the old regime.

I don't really care who retired and who didn't. It would be nice to see the police do a simple task like enforce speed limits in residential areas. It's not like they are swamped with robberies and murders here. How simple and less energy taxing can enforcing speed limits be? Complaints after complaints about it and the same area still has the same drivers using a residential street as an expressway. C'ville cops need to stay out of parking lots and start listening to what the residents need.

Well,.....I'll tell ya, sure I know "It's the law" but I didn't really appreciate this gum chew'n cop pulling me over for not having my seat belt on in C'ville. The ticket was only $20.00 and I could care less but I feel positive that he, nor the government that passed that law, is "not" concerned for my safety. Those who are concerned are the super rich insurance conglomerates that control our congress and push (buy)to get laws like this passed in an effort to sky-rocket insurance prices. Like motorcycle helmets,(which Illinois repealed the law on)...... IF I WANT ONE, I'LL WEAR ONE !!! Man, I feel better now!

I agree with you on the seat belt incidents. Obviously cops are more interested in giving a ticker for no seat belt than they are for idiots doing 55 in a 35 mph residential area. When someone gets hit, like a family member of mine almost did,(and I reported it) I suppose they'll be surprised.

A lot of times they will have a special post to enforce the speed limit in problem areas.

That being said, 2 things can happen. Sometimes you have a cop that doesn't give a shit. And sometimes, shocker, they just cannot catch everyone.

(notice I'm not totally defending them, but it needs to be noted that some actually do care & do there jobs)

I completely agree with you. But unfortunately we do not live in a perfect world. There will always be someone out there who is hypocritical.

That being said, I think Hamric is trying his hardest to staff that Department with quality personnel. It will take time though, drastic change doesn't happen overnight.

I'm sure you're right, Rook. Maybe he'll be a regular "Matt Dillon" over there.(wish they had a Long Branch)
