How sad! Ithink this appearance by EPISD was a cruel tease to the hopeful and struggling teachers. They are in a financial crisis and yet they put on an air of arrogance and never give a care.
Please tell these hopefuls that they may be able to learn of opportunities in other locations via the internet(ed-join, ect). Thus saving money, time, and trouble.

I've pretty much resolved myself that I'll never get another teaching job because of all the cuts and the evil Republicans who hate education. I was fired last year after some bimbo accused me of goosing her but she later recanted because she had only been protecting herself. Apparently she came home from a date with hickeys all over her body and her dad was upset so she blamed me. I've won major awards in my time as a teacher but no one wants to give me a chance now that the money is so tight. I may have to go and look for a soup kitchen soon.

"...the evil Republicans who hate education."

I'm not a Republican, but an Independent. However, you are trying to oversimplify a problem by demonizing only one political party.

With all the haggling over the budget, we are not seeing any significant change in the status quo. As Obama said, allegedly when the mike was supposed to be turned off, "Let the Republicans nickle and dime me on the budget (they must think I'm stupid).

Both parties think all of us are stupid. All they do is keep delaying the inevitable: the collapse of our economy. Eventually we are going to see runaway inflation when the dollar is drastically devalued--and that is the only way we are ever going to pay off the national debt--by stiffing our creditors with devalued currency.

I hope people understand that all this publicity by the Times and news stations is because the districts want to keep this out there so the public will vote for the next TRE. The schools are fine, people have actually started to work harder to prove themselves, imagine that. There profession is no different dealing with lay offs as any other. Healthcare is a great example. This reduction is actually benefiting the students, and people do not realize it. When the class size increases then maybe the disruptive students will be sent to the office more, which in turn will allow more teaching to happen for those who really want to learn. We can only hope the administration for each school has a backbone to deal with these problem situations instead of turning the other cheek and sending them back to class. Ask teachers and most will tell you that is the hardest part is dealing with kids who are disruptive and nothing is done because their school administration doesn't want to fill out the report online or on paper because it is time consuming, or afraid what parents will say. The issue is way deeper than the loss of jobs. Their is also the manipulation of the STARR test recently to who was allowed to take it, and who was discriminated against to take it. It reminded me of the Bowie story. Again the issues are deeper than cut positions that should have been done a long time ago.

It's high time we weeded out perverts like you from the educational system. Why are you goosing young women instead of teaching them about history or economics? Girls need more than just a grab - they also need knowledge and some damn discipline. Serves you right for placing bun caressing above instructing.

Don't be a moron, you are so ignorant. What part of Geromes statement didn't you understand. ACCUSED means ACCUSED.

Teachers are the only field in the world that are GUILTY before proven innocent. If a teacher is accussed their names will be in the paper and TV even before there is an investigation and of course the Times and their idiotic investigative reporters will make a big issue even if its a FALSE ACCUSATION. I am sure that if you work in something other than teacher and you are accused nothing will happen to you. But teachers are crucified and the times will not clear your name.
I agree with you that the perverts should be weeded out, I have three daughters and I would go postal if a teacher does anything to them. But the reality is that the teachers who are real perverts are still in the districts cause they are usually friends with the principal and superintendent. The teachers getting false accusations against them are usually the strict teachers, the ones that are not afraid to discipline and make students work hard, parents don't want discipline and already figured out that the best way to get rid of a teacher is to accuse them of improper conduct.

I guarantee you that the majority of the teachers that were accused in the past five years were innocent. Most schools have cameras and many people watching. If these teachers were guilty why didn't you hear of their trials or jail sentences. But this joke of media that we have in El Paso didn't do anything to clear their name. And NO NO NO I am not a teacher!!! I am just sick and tired of all the negativity towards teachers. AMERICA is going thru an ANTI-TEACHER sentiment and it needs to stop. Thats why todays generation is full of dumb asses. Go ask any teacher or college professor. Todays kids only know how to log on to facebook, can't read or write and want everything handed to them.

Yes I know of cases just like you describe. One set of high school girls did not like the grade they received so they made up a story. After the teacher was accused and suspended they finally recanted. Another did not like the discipline by a male coach, made up a story, got him dismissed (he finally won) but the damage was well done. Students are believed at first and the teacher is always guilty till proven innocent. You are right, you never hear of the teacher getting cleared in the media.

This is just a front. There are no more jobs in the teaching field. The districts are soooo corrupt anyway, who'd want to work there?

School districts should start removing Administrators first before they start gettin grid of teachers. There are a lot of principals who don't have any leadership skills or people skills. They treat their faculty and staff terribly. Start with them.

Gosh with all those teachers and hourly employees being laid off, what will those supervisors, admistrators, assistants, directors, coaches, and leaders do with their time?
Does anyone else see a problem with what they are doing?
We are paying money hand over foot to an admistrative nightmare. No wonder New Mexico is targeting them in their state.

Gerome and Really001

Have you noticed that the press in New Juarez (El Paso) was going after teachers within a 2 or 3 year span, now they are going against police officers. I wonder if they will go after teachers again in 2011. I am amazed that in the last two years they were accusing teachers left and right and now it stopped.

I wonder why the press gave up on destroying teachers.

I have a friend that was an awesome teacher and one of the best coaches in El Paso. He used to help everyone but now he will not do anything for anyone he does not coach or teach anymore. He was falsely accused by an illegal that wanted money and thought she would get citizenship because of the case. Channel 26 even interviewed the woman and allowed for her to lie on camera, they didn't even wait for the police to investigate. He was never charged or arrested because this woman had accused 2 other people before and now she is trying to destroy another teacher at the new school that she is at. My friend was reinstated but the damage was done, he was reinstated to another school but the district (clint) did not support him. So he quit and now the only people that suffer are all the students that he helped.

But anyway Gerome Good luck to you. Just look for another career and just worry about yourself and your family. The education system is joke, no one appreciates what you do and will only bring you pain.

My friend now spends his time with his family and uses all his money and effort on his children instead of other people. And he seems so relaxed and healthy now.

I don't know the guy that posted that, but didn't you just read that the accuser recanted her story? Do you know if he is guilty? why do you judge?

People like him love to jump to conclusions and condemn even before the facts are in. This particular teacher's plight has been the subject of much media coverage and it turns out that the girl in question was knocked up and didn't want her father to know that she was balling her boyfriend so she made up the story. This girl's lack of intellect came pouring out when she made the accusation, however, because she claimed that the teacher tried to play grabass with her and then jammed his hand down her pants from behind in order to wedge it in between her butt cheeks and that was how she became pregnant. The media, always eager to sensationalize, ran with the story before doing even a cursory investigation which would obviously have revealed her story to be fabricated. Fortunately, the teacher has filed several lawsuits and stands to make a bundle as a result of his wrongful termination and defamation.

How many innocent teachers have gone in front of the corrupt Lorenzo Garcia and the Board of Trustees asking for relief and have been judged guilty by Garcia and his incompetent accomplices?

This story is so familiar in El Paso that I imagine that Garcia and the Board have been operating in the dark for so long, like mushrooms. They have gotten away with so much injustice and many innocent teachers have had their careers ruined for life.

What goes around, comes around; and now Garcia is facing the same situation as all those hundreds of innocent teachers who have been fired because of the corruption that is rampant in the EPISD, from Garcia to the principals who have turned out to be pieces of turds who will lie and twist facts around just to protect themselves from the truth.

To admit that they have made a mistake, by accusing an innocent person is too much for their twisted morality and non-integrity. It has been such a disappointment to realize that high school principals in this district working under this superintendent aren't the paragons of morality and honesty that we expect our education leaders to be.

They are just crooked people like anyone else, except that for some reason they feel that they have the right to lie and cheat with impunity and twist the facts so that they fit into their crooked schemes, and the time has come to to bring their wrongdoing to light.

Everything happens for a reason and I believe that the arrest of Lorenzo Garcia for embezzlement and the hacking of the EPISD website was a sign from God or the spirit, but someone will find and publish an email sent from one corrupt bureaucrat to another and the whole edifice of malfeasance will come tumbling down.
