Interesting how a man with so much to offer (lawncare services, cemetery services, moving services, rentals likely to cause you to need at least one of the latter) ALSO runs a brokerage firm. It's illegal in tn not to mention you are a broker if you are advertising rentals.

Joe V. Williams creates an intolerable atmosphere so that one is forced to use one of his many OTHER services. In legal circles, this is known as 'conflict of interest.' Laymen call it sneaky. Underhanded. Nondisclosure. The USA deems it illegal.

Of course, Mr. Williams was a reservist during Vietnam, according to Times Free Press, so he would be deserving of special privledges, I imagine. It is ever so stressfull to think you may be called on to do something noble, someday, at some point. Perhaps it's just Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome causing such memory loss as to the rights of citizens besides for himself.

Remind us...what is he about?

Money. Obviously. Makes the world go round. The love of it is the root of all evil. Move on. To be one of the enslaved to the mighty dollar is punishment enough. Wether or not hell exists after death, imagine living it here on earth as one of the 'privelidged' who use others for gain.
To demean others is to demean ourselves.

Oliver C. Lawrence, owner of Bayou Properties.

If the houses can be brought to habitable conditions, this slumlord will be sentenced to live in his own rental property.

Rent isn't cheap if floods need to be dealt with, entire heating systems replaced, hot water heaters replaced, fire alarms supplied, windows fixed, pestilence removed, and large expensive appliances bought all at the renters expense.

People rent to avoid the responsibility of home ownership. The point is, maintenance is not the renters job. It's also the law that a home is habitable prior to a renter moving in. In Cleveland TN a rental house must be brought up to code with "each change of occupancy" on a rental.

Check the code guidelines at the library. It's the law.

People also rent who can not afford to make a down payment on a house or whose lives require them to move often.

Way too many landlords try to dodge their responsibilities.

Making money with rental property is not easy, unless you do screw people around and rent slums that you refuse to repair, then one day you will end up in court.

If a landlord owns (inherited) the property outright (and in fact owns a good portion of the rental properties in town, including prime real estate in the Historic District) then everything he makes is a profit.
Maintenance is cheaper than big repairs.
The Bradley County courthouse showed documentation in April '09 in the Registrar of Deeds office showing that the IRS placed a a lien on Louisville Land properties, owned by Joe V. Williams, who had a lien placed on his property by his own tenant after she won in court because she went six months with no stove and most of the winter with no heat.
While she lived in the house her seven year old daughter suffered and her husband, who was hospitalized, succumbed.
There was no reason for Mr. Joe V. Williams, III not to adhere to the law and do his duty as a businessman, and in good faith.
His own workers say, "Joe don't give nobody back their securty deposit." It's principal.
