Review: Beer Joint

My friends and I walked into the bar (with no doorman) and took a seat. It was St. Patty's Day, and there was a live band playing. We were waiting on friends to arrive and asked for an ashtray. My 20yr old friend asked only for the ashtray, and after checking her ID the bartender tried to sell her a drink anyways. After declining, my friend came back to our table and about 7 minutes later our other friends arrived. After my group of friends had ordered a pitcher of beer and had enough time to begin drinking it, that same bartender came up to us and asked for a $3 cover charge. This we all found to be outrageous, considering half of us had already been in the bar for about 10-15mins at that point. The bartender was claiming she was busy and couldn't watch the door, but there was a total of about 7 people in the bar and, from what it seemed to me, she was just shooting the breeze with some customers. After already providing us service and then coming back and demanding $3 is ridiculous. This type of poor service is absolutely unacceptable. I would not recommend this bar to anyone.

So Kim, were you really mad because you were hoping they wouldn't ask you for the cover after you had already sat down and ordered? I've been to this establishment many times and I know for a fact that there was a sign posted on the door telling who the band was and how much (if any) the cover charge is. You could have taken your drinks outside and finished them and then left if you didn't want to pay the cover...they do have seating outside or did you miss that too?
There is no excuse for offering an underage person a drink but they do have non-alcoholic beverages there so maybe your friend misunderstood what kind of drink the bartender was offering.
I think you knew what you were getting into with the cover charge or you wouldn't have come and you were just hoping for a free concert. Bands play for money and $3 isn't that much compared to other places. So next time pay attention, pay the cover and enjoy yourself.

I think little Kimmie is just mad because she had to pay a whole $3.
I've met the guys who own the place and a lot of my friends go there, and I seriously doubt the bartender would try to sell an underage person a drink, especially since if she got caught, she would be going to jail.
Maybe Kimmie works for a competing bar and is trying to give The Beer Joint a bad name.

I love this bar! Go pay cover at the tap for no band at all. Nothing in life is free but sometimes you pay for nothing.

I agree I saw the same post from this same person on another review for the Beer Joint and you sound silly...by the way Kim you were at a small bar were 90% of the ppl are regulars and love the beer joint and when they get new comers they usually will sit and talk to you.
