Another Channel 4 story that leaves more questions than it answers! I bet the police know the "sex" (_gender_!) but they haven't released it.

1 Rent goes up, crime goes up, and I'm getting out and leaving it to the lowlifes. |

2 Rent goes up, crime goes up? I thought it would be the opposite... Rent up, crime down because higher rent means less broke thugs can afford to live around you. |

When I lived in Alexandria many eons ago, the area rent was very high. Still thugs preyed on the unwittingly upper middle class who had no idea what traveling thugs can do to a community. The beautiful safeway was the scene of the robber who struck at midnight and was dubbed the midnight robber. I asked a cashier one day if the midnight robber had struck yet. Who's that? The shopping center had many small stores where the employees would open the back door to take out trash or take deliveries and the hoods hanging in the back would force their way into the stores. The kicker occured when a man was beaten into a coma while walking home from the Giant to his apartment. Nice neighborhoods, high rents, and less crime no way! I should point out the local auto dealer sometimes missed seven cars a week. One night a car was stolen at midnight, another at twoam, and the police caught another would be thief at four. Lucky the place had a security guard who checked every hour. The neighborhood usually suffered six or seven cars a week stolen. Gangs from Maryland and DC as judged by those caught did most of the stealing. Want to be safe? Move to Alaska and fight off the polar bears. There is no safety unless the majority of those who now turn their heads get involved in the struggle for public safety.

1 I would have thought so as well Nik, but it just isn't so. I've been here since 2002 and rent continues to go up as the neighborhood gets worse and worse. One of the main problems is the proximity of a large plot of section-8 housing on Castle Blvd right behind all of these Condos/Apts. Thugs just walk through the woods and rob & steal. The (un)Safeway center literally looks like a 3rd-world country. |

Hey i lived in Briggs Chaney over 8 years ago. It was safer than DC. But now it seems like its the opposite. Yes it does look third world out there by that Ross and SafeWay stores. When i used to work at Ross fellas did come to rob us. It was pretty scary..I guess for safety you gotta pay more an move way out. We had some bad apples ride the bus and get off in the nice areas and then rob people. I don't know where the crazies came from but i guess the gentrification of DC has something to do with it...very sad...

The Un-Safeway .... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Excellent ... and true! That whole section of Briggs Chaney and Castle Blvd along RT 29 are long overdue for a nuclear attack. Then again, wait it out and natural selection will take care of business. |

I live on Castle Blvd and i shop at the shopping center day and night and i have never had a problem, fortunately i have never been robbed or disrespected, my apt is nice, management keeps the grounds clean and i can honestly say that i am enjoying my stay thus far and it's been 7 months. As far as people referring the area to DC, there are good areas in DC as well, and it's not where you live , it's how you live because you can take the boy outta the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto outta the boy!!!!!!!!!!

This area used to be a good area up until recently but the police are doing a good job in cleaning things up.

I live in Silver Spring, Md around the Briggs Chaney Area, I have no problems at all, I mind my business go to work, come home, walk my dog and do whatever else I need to do, As far as crime I have not seen any crime, I live at Hampton Point Apartments, about 5 blocks from Castle Blvd. and boy I tell you it's a big difference, my neigborhood is very diverse and I love it, as I mentioned I have not had any problems at all, but sometimes when I go to the Grocery Store at Briggs Chaney Plaza I do notice that their are thugs standing around but no one bothers me at all, maybe because I am always with my boyfriend who looks like a wrestler, I sometimes see shady individuals standing around looking crazy and high..but as I mentioned no one bothers me, but I will be moving to a townhouse in December so I will make sure I do my research before I move.

i grew up here and love this area . i also shop at briggs chaney but the conditions are getting worse . there is a police station within two hundred yards of this place and still robberies/shootings occur . i guess it'll take a white cop to shoot a african american " suspect" to get some real attention . maybe then al sharpton or jesse jackson will take a ride two miles up the road and take a look at the cloverly safeway and have an explanation ? these people need to " rise up and raise their young " obama ...2009 |

By AP News correspondent: A Montgomery County man died following a police-involved shooting Wednesday morning in Germantown. According to police, two officers went to an apartment complex on Eagles Nest Court in the Waring Station neighborhood to follow up on a disconnected 911 call. Police are releasing few details, but said at least one and possibly two of the officers fired their service weapons. When backup arrived, police found two officers "engaged in life-saving efforts" on a man on the front porch. The man, a resident of the apartment complex, eventually died. A police spokesperson said a gun and knife were found by his body. Detectives do not believe the subject shot himself but police say that this time of year, domestic incidents reports are on the rise and more calls are coming into the station about disorderly conduct in the parking lots and fighting. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave. Police said it is unclear if the man fired at police but violence against law enforcement is on the rise due to people stealing cars and attacking cops and detectives in the process of getting away. |

Ive been in the area for almost 10 years now and Briggs Chaney is a cesspool of drugs and violence now. The police substation a couple blocks away? My car got stolen from right in front of it, I kid you not. There was a shooting right in front of the chuck e cheese this past weekend, its ridiculous out here now a days. Id almost rather live in D.C., at least you expect sh*t like that to happen there, this is supposed to be montgomery county!!!!

I've noticed in the weekly Crime Report in the Post's Montgomery section that Castle Blvd is nearly always listed as a place where property crimes have occurred - stealing from cars or residences. I've noticed this for a very long time... so it's not something new... but I sure hope those that live there can band together somehow to make a positive change.

I notices the same thing....in fact, I found this blog while searching "Castle Boulevard" because it comes up so frequently in the crime section, I wanted to know where it is so I can avoid the area and don't go there by mistake. |

I have lived at Woodlake for 5 years and the crime in this area is no worse than any other area. the Montgomery county police are seen in the area a lot but I always thought that was a good thing.
