Maybe you just shouldn't have any kids and then it will even out a little.

Hey if molesters can't live within a certain distance of a park or a school, then parents shouldn't be allowed to forget 8 year olds where perverts hook up. Read the 1/17/08 Bee article in the Orangevale section about pervs cruising for sex. It's rampant. That place, Folsom Day Spa on Folsom Blvd by the Togos is a regular place pervs use as a bathhouse in sacramento. And the police know all about it. They brag about knowing where public sex takes place, but they won't do anything about Folsom Day Spa.

people, please stop judjing, seriously!!!! I know this family really well, and they're a really good family. yes, their family is big, but they are really friendly and no, those kids aren't miserable! they were probably tired and didn't realize that one of the kids were missing. plus, Thomas was always one of the quietest.

Give the stone throwing a rest!
As a mom of 8, I just had to laugh when I read that article this morning. Things like that happen to large families, and if you don't live in one, you probably can't understand.
I recall a Focus on the Family episode where a judge/father of 12 was being interviewed by Dr. Dobson. He shared the funny story that on their way to the radio station for the interview, they'd inadvertently left one at the hotel!

I don't care how big your family is, if you decide to have that many children, you need to be responsible and organized enough to NOT LEAVE THEM BEHIND! The parents didn't even realize their son was missing until well after they got home, as they put the kids to sleep. How can a mother even do that? I still kiddingly nag my mother about the time I was left for five minutes at a campground, twenty years ago, and she still feels bad about it, because you have to be responsible for the lives you bring into the world.

This family is big! BUT BLESSED! THE PARENTS WERE TIRED THAT SHOULD BE UNDERSTANDABLE! WHO hasnt made a mistake in their life? EVERYONE has done something wrong! Thats why theres a word called forgiveness! And i think that this family needs to be forgiven! This family is a big family we all know that this family is also really cool, their friendly, their nice, they could raise your mood if its down! theres a lot of kids in this family and hard to keep track of all of them, especially when their quiet all the time. But they are sure fun to hang out with! I personally forgive this family! BECAUSE THATS WHAT JESUS WOULD DO! AND I THINK THAT EVERYONE SHOULD FORGIVE THIS FAMILY! THEIR NOT MORONS LIKE FEW PPL SAID EARLIER, AND THEIR NOT MORMONS! THEIR A FAMILY THATS CHRISTIAN AND BELIEVE IN GOD! BECAUSE GOD IS THE WAY OF LIFE! ANY COMMENTS? write me zheka09@yahoo.com ILL BE MORE THEN WELCOMED TO TALK TO YOU!!!!

There are some rest areas I can think of that would not be a very good place for a six year old child on their own...even for a few minutes.

Lucky "nothing" happened...

I understand how you feel, but it happens. I am from a large family. I was the one left behind at the festival.

I didn't keep on reminding my parents years later either. Do you like making your mom feel bad?

Stuff happens. I come from a small family. I was left at the grocery store at age five. My mom to this day is loath to bring it up...

Having a lot of kids in this day and age just doesn't make any sense; no regard for those that limit the size of families so as not to deplete resources and become a burden on society.

OMG! This poor little boy! I am so glad to read that this boy was reunited with his family - especially as it seems this was a tragic mistake.

I can only imagine the parents horror when they arrived home and discovered they had left one of their precious children behind.

Jeanette - you need to talk to a therapist - twenty years is a long time to hold a grudge against your mom; stop laying on the guilt trip already! You didn't mention how many siblings you have, so why were you left at a campground for FIVE minutes? My mom, dad, we 4 kids and our cousin were at a store when I was 6 years old. I got left behind. They finally showed up to claim me but in the meantime, I got a lot of free toys while I waited. This story made me remember that incident for the first time in 50 years. I know lots of kids from various size families that this has happened to. It's much more common than you think. Ask around.

More careless "parents" or just TOO MANY kids??!!

It's still no excuse for forgetting one of your children at a rest stop.

Been there, done that. Got left at a gas station when Mom forgot to do her usual count after her 8 chicks loaded back into the station wagon. Didn't take Mom and Dad too long to figure it out and come back.

Give Mom a break she is tired, but why one from the other 13 kids says "Hey wait, Thomas not here yet?"

This is why you do a head count if you are a mother of 14. I don't think the parents are negligent but to realize one is missing that late..wow, is all I can say.
