I think anyone who has more than 2 kids (unless they have triplets, etc.) are irresponsible and sick. Firstly, bringing even one child into the world with the state it is in is questionable. When you have more children than parents in the house, it is impossible to keep control (unless you turn the kids into robots). Anytime I see one of the "mega families" the kids all have the same haircut, they all play an instrument, and are usually home-schooled. In short, these parents are living out some kind of perverse need to be in control. If these people had access to political power, they would show themselves to be Hitlers, Stalins and Maos. They simply want to control as may people as possible. Furthermore, it is impossible to devote the proper amount of one-on-one time to each kid or to their spouse. I'm not for the government getting involved by mandating birth control... but I do think these people should be subject to mental evaluation!

Gotta be Mormons - nine boys, five girls.

The remaining question is - How many wives?

After the first 6 or 7 kids how did they ever find the opportunity or energy to "make" more?

Spermicidal creams, condoms, vasectomy, tubal ligation, vow of celibacy, chastity belt...

Stop the insanity!!

In the old days, families were MUCH larger than they are now. If a family can afford it, who are we to say how many kids they are allowed to have.
My husbands aunt, for example, is 80+ yrs
old...and raised 11 kids.(and not Mormon, and all from one man and one woman) In the 70's when I was in school, I had 3 friends, ALL of them came from families with 8,12 and 15 kids.

Look how many families we read about in the news, with 1 or 2 children...that neglected or harmed, or worse.

Old custom in Placer County. Leave one brave in wilderness. Move on with tribe. If lone brave gets to tepee he gets extra portion of bear meat and wears great map quest feather dress to tribal councils.

Yes, it was late at night, and yes, I'm sure my parents were very tired. My mom realized my brother was missing after about 30 minutes down the road & we had to go back for him (darn it!). He was still in the restroom when we got there so he didn't even know we had left without him. I was only 8 yrs old at the time (& very sleepy) and the twins were under 2 yrs old. The brother left behind was about 6. How do you lose a 6 yr old? Easy- try dealing with twins in diapers on a long road trip! LOL
These parents and I use that term loosly left him at 3:30 and didn't notice until 8 ... that 4 and a half hours ... what about dinner time?? How did they not realize he was gone when the family had dinner or a better question may be did they feed any of their kids at a decent hour for dinner?

According to the article no charges were filed but the case was sent over to the D.A. for further review and possible prosecution.

Well you are real intelligent! You must not have a family to say that anymore than 2 kids is irresponsible. I was one of 6, with 2 parents. When I was growing up, it was called responsibility, not control. This was a mistake and thankfully, this child was ok. People make mistakes you know, but then again, you must be perfect and not require a mental evaluation and you are probably an only child. Children are a gift from God. Talk to me when you have 22 year old daughter that can no longer have children (she has one and is lucky to have her) through no fault of her own. Talk to me when you grow old have no one there for you. Growing up in a large family is awesome. But you probably will never experience that.

As a kid, I was very quiet and a bookworm. Everywhere I went I carried and read books, even when walking.

When my parents had five kids, my mother accidently drove off and left me at my aunt's house. She noticed after about 30 minutes that I wasn't in the car. Mom returned to find me in the room where all the books were stored. I didn't even know she had forgotten me.

That's horrible! How can you forget your child! I mean, honestly! You think they'd at least notice in the car or something! But no, they didn't even realize it until they were home and tucking their other kids into bed. These people shouldn't have the blessing of fourteen children. They obviously can't take care of them all.

LOL!! That would have been hilarious to hear a mother actually say that to her children.:)
