I was in St.Josephs Home in 1964-1975 me,my sister Karen Bohm, John Bohm don't you have any lists of the people there between these years. It's sad to tell a story to my children and grand children when there no photos to show, it'slike we didn't exist the least they could of done was take some pictures. Do you know any sites Icould go on where we can see some more pictures? Whaever happeed to St. Josephs? Why did it close? Iknow when I was there the nuns started leaving and we had counselors.Iwould like to know where my frends went to? Bad enough we didn't have the love but didn't anyone ever consider the children and we had children? Guess not.

I don't know if any of you'll remember me. I was know to all of you as Miss Margaret...and I taught Ballet, Tap, Folk Dancing, Guitar, Arts+Crafts, Synchronized Swimming and Red Cross Junior Life Saving at the Pool. We also put on quite a few 'Dance Recitals' and Hoot'n Annies on the stage and with a Sr. Angeline and a few Seminarians help, as you all sang, we put on the first 'Folk Mass' in the Chapel. The retired nuns of the Fransiscan Sisters of the North American Continent wouldn't hear of it at first..but I knew that we 'had them' when I saw them 'tapping their shoes in the front row after the first few lines of the first song...After the Mass they wanted to know when the 'next one was going to be'. What a triumph! All of these things helped to make a lot of changes for the better for all of you....of course.... with the permission of Sr. Marita Paul and Sr. Joan. I still love all of you so and have often wondered what has happened with you wonderful hearts. I would love to hear from you. My email address is 'mdaviesmilona@gmail.com'. Please contact me and let me know what you're up to. It would really make my heart sing.

my sister and I visted St. Joseph's on Saturday the 28th 20012,It was something we had wanted to do ,but continually put it off. We where in the home in 1952 to55,we went to kennedy ,and left sometime in 1958,We where known as the Lugo's Joseph, Louis, Emily and Martha. Going back to vist was a good way to reconnect with our childhood ghost. The place was changed in that the boy's dorm is now a complex, and where we went swimming was now also prvt.homes. I would like to know what happened to many of my group dorm sisters. I how that Claire Kellahr, became a nun, I've seen her twice sometime ago in the city, and the again on Saturday. It was so good to have been to the fair and pray that I'm able to do so again.

Hi, my name ia Rose Esposito and my father, Frank Esposito was in St. Joseph's home from about 1945 until 1958. He was about 5 when he went in and left after H.S at 18. He and several of his brothers and sisters grew up in the home and I am hoping to learn more about his experiences there. I love my father a lot but he can't seem to get close to me and now that he is ill and older I really want to help him as best as I can. The only thing I know is that he was a very good swimmer and possibly a lifeguard. If anyone knows my dad or can just give me some knowledge about the home please email me. My dad is a good man...he is a devout catholic but keeps very distant from his family, myself included. I guess I am trying to better understand him...I love him a lot and I know he loves me, he just doesn't know how to show it.
Thank You and Best wishes this New Year.

I am trying to find someone who was in the home in the late 60's. His name was John Snow. He had a brother Eddie and I cannot remember his sister's name. She went to Uriah Hill and Eddie went to Oakside. John attended Woodside school with me. He spent many of his days at my home with my family. My mom and dad tried to adopt him but when he turned 12 his biological mom took him back to N.Y. with her. He did come to visit us when we turned 16, whcih would have been about 1973-74. If there is a way to find people that were in the home please let me know. My email is bmmom@aol.com
Thanks

I was the Saint Joseph home in the early seventies I started in group 3 and went all the way to group ten. I want to throw out a few counselor's names to see if anybody remembers them. First I remember sister Marita Paul, Monsignor Bess, Tony Tiani, Jay Dowling, and that's all I can remember right now. It's funny I was trying to acquire medical records from back then and I bumped into this site. I wonder if anybody remembers me and my brother Anthony Perez

Hey Rudy- I was in St. Joe's from about 1973 through 1978. I was in Group 5 I think when I got there. I remember being in group 8 or so later on. I do remember some of the counselors- Gary Conklin, who drove a white BMW, Big Mike, Mr. Robert (who only worked Sunday mornings, did the NY Times crossword, and taught me to make wine-cheese omelets). I remember the Crossland brothers. There were 4 of them- Gary, Bebe, and two other bad ass kids. I used to play ping pong with Hassan in the rec center at the top of the hill. And I think Mr. Bruce was the Art counselor that ran the rec center.
I've recently retired from 25 years in the Army. I'm reminiscing about the good old days. I started looking back at where I've been and saw that the Home is gone and been replaced by what looks like a condo complex. I guess everything passes.

Just happened upon the Topix Website for St. Joe's in Peekskill. I have some great memories from there. I was with the Capuchin Franciscan friars from Garrison. Our "in service" training brought us every week to St. Joe's to work with the children. I loved the work tremendously. I was with the girls group -- age range about 8-10. That was in the late 1960s. Sr. Bernard (Joan Riley) and Sr. Theodora (Lois Sabarese) were the group "mothers." I believe we were the ones who introduced the folk Mass there. I know I used to play the guitar for them. Other friars were Fr. Alan Wilson and Fr. Francis Kline who also spent a lot of time at St. Joe's. Francis was a good friend of Sr. Marita Paul.
I recall Kathy and Michael Brown, who were there at the time. I befriended them and used to take them on outings with some friends of mine in Mohawk, NY, who kind of played mother and father to Kathy and Michael. We even got to take the kids on vacation to Canada (Montreal/Quebec) once. Don't know whatever happened to Kathy and Michael. I think of them often, and so do the friends in Mohawk.
