If your talkig about the tower just north of cold brook on t left, that tower was put up by the fire dept for communications not cell phones.

Nah. It must be a cell tower. How can a volunteer fire dept afford a radio tower in these finiancial times. Mine works great now and I get awesome 4G access and internet on my PC with Verizon wireless. Maybe you need a new cell phone operator.

What would a volunteer fire dept need a radio tower for? That makes no sense at all.

Iv heard that's where prospect fire spent the rest of their money and that's why they can't afford to pay their comp bill thus making them possibly close their doors

Hahahaha. they can't pay their comp bill because of lousy insurance coverage. And maybe a little more support and participation by some of you with your local fire departments may help you understand how things work and what your departments are doing.

The Facebook posts are very revealing. I'm thinking some of the folks that answered this are in the FD and spent their own valuable time and money in helping to design and build and maintain this tower In one of the most stretched-out districts in NY. Kudos to them for forethought and initiative.

I guess I'm not getting it. Who is the fire dpt broadcasting to? The public??

Broadcasting? Maybe to folks with scanners. How about the need for reliable, ubiquitous communications in a far flung fire district with remote areas and a variety of topologies and weather conditions during a time of changing communications technologies and regulation for a group of families volunteering their time and lives in a growing community dependant on them. And they did it inexpensively and safely with the generous help of department members and wonderful citizen supporters in the face of recalcitrance and inability from other agencies and organizations with the capabilities to support it. Now then, question for you. Why do you think they should need (or not need) that?
