We had a driver that dropped off a FIVE YEAR OLD girl at a strangers house because she was crying about having to go potty. He said he would come back to pick her up...

Mom was upset when the bus drove by her house and didn't drop her daughter off.She called the school and after radio calls to the driver..it was explained. She went to the house and picked up her daughter and complained that the driver should be fired and arrested!

She called the local paper, which called the school administrator who said that they are talking to the bus drivers union about what can be done?

He never missed a day of work...

Bus drivers should check the bus every day before leaving the workplace. That being said, I wonder how late the kid was up the night before? A lot of people don't bother with routine bedtimes anymore.

Just because a kid falls asleep on the bus does not mean he was up late the night before.
I used to be in bed early when I was his age and would fall asleep every so often on the bus.
I have a 5 and 8 year old neice who do the same thing. This driver should be held accountable, not a tired 8 year old.

Hey stupid, a bus driver is NOT a state worker. The bus company is a private company.

I really have to disagree with several posters' views of bus drivers. My children have ridden both school district and private transportation company's buses for over 20 years and I have found that 98% of those drivers (and monitors/aides) have been dedicated, caring individuals. This is especially true for private companies who depend on their reputations for future business. This, to me, was carelessness on the part of one driver and that driver should, indeed, be fired for incompetence. Anyone in any job needs to remember the job's responsibilities. In the case of a bus driver, driving safely is first, delivering the children to the right destination is a really close second!

I thought the routine of a bus driver was to walk the length of the whole bus after every route and check every seat to make sure someone wasn't left behind. Why wasn't that done? Scary.

Everyone talks about the failings of the bus driver and he certainly failed miserably! But what about the responsibility of one self and this 8 year old boy. NOT his fault, right? First off, why the hell is he sleeping on the bus? Shouldn't he be alert enough to recognize his stop is coming up? My 8 year old know this. This child will quickly learn that the world is not responsible for him and he is responsible for himself. It's a dog eat dog world and this is a good lesson for him to learn.
But from his name, Zereem, coupled with the fact the boy lives in Troy but gets bused to Albany, tells me that the boy's mother is looking for some FREE MONEY!
Get over it lady, all ended well!!!

A parent has a right to seek the best education for their child regardless of where they live. It's called the No Child Left Behind Act. So that's neither here nor there for all you people screaming about the kid living in Troy and going to school in Albany. It's the responsibility of the bus driver to check the bus before calling it a day and he/she apparently did not do that. There should be some kind of disciplinary action although I don't totally agree with firing the bus driver. Everyone makes mistakes and I'm sure this is one he/she will never make again. And for those of you saying it's the 8 year olds responsibility, really? Kids fall asleep all the time when in a moving vehicle. That's why it's the responsibility of the BUS DRIVER to make sure all the kids are off the bus. Dog eat Dog, you're a moron.

DogEatDog I have to agree with you on the mom looking for money. No doubt there.

I do agree the bus driver was negligent in leaving the boy on the bus however, it was not intentionally, the boy was not injured, he was returned home safely. If mom wants to make a statement maybe she should push for a new procedure, one that forces the drivers to walk their bus before parking it.

Should he be fired? If this was his first offense and otherwise is a great driver...No. If he is lazy, mean, and has numerous other complaints then yes. But not just over this incident.
