Newby was not given the option to resign or be fired. I do not know where you got your information, but it is incorrect.

I agree with "Concerned". We need to show up and support our children of this community. We need an administration, staff, school board, parents etc that care for the children. Leadership reflects attitude. Activities in our schools are for the children, to teach teamwork, responsibility, etc. Football is going to need a coach that is willing to pull the team together in spite of the mess caused by the adults. This is not a time to give this job to a "family member" or a "yes" man! Give it to the person that can do the job and will provide the children what they need. Since the administratio never asked them about the what happened in the locker room I sure hope they ask them who they want to be their new coach!

I can see why a coach would want to come to the ville, for the fact of the talent that the town has. However what coach would want to walk into the situation with the administration and board. Not going to be a easy fill. Also I agree with sayitlikeitis, dont need family members or yes men. And no newby was not ask to resign.

I find it interesting that at the parsons home game students and parents were chanting fire smith. Says alot for the respect of the students and parents for him. As for the football job finding 3 coaches who want to walk into this mess good luck with that. I have heard there could be more coaches resign before the school year is over.

Are you talking about the basketball game on Friday the 15th. If so then there was no kind of chanting like that going on.I was 20 feet away from the student section and the assistant principal was also standing close to the kids. So before you get on here and bash our kids get you'r FACTS straight

Coach Giesen and Coach Littleford were totally ripped off when they lost their coaching positions. The kids are still ticked off and I do not blame them one bit. There is not much anyone can do once the administration, the superintendent and the school board make a decision other than continue to protest.
As for who will be the new head football coach? Who knows? Ed Raschen is an obvious choice, and Tracy Childress is a heck of a nice guy, regardless of the opinion of this board. I know both men very well, and personal connections aside, they both seem to care about their students and athletes enough to step up and do the job. Nick Winger is also a damn good educator and coach. I believe the position will go to someone new, and I hope that person will have the ability to shine and lead our Golden Tornado football team to victory.
There is a lot of talent to tap.

I know for a fact that the great educator and coach you speak of Nick Wenger is the one who got Coach Geisen and Coach Littleford fired. He heard rumor that he was the next coach we were after and so he ratted us out. I was told this by a girl who takes his class. She over heard him talking to another student about it. It really pisses me off that he got our favorite coaches fired and if he were to get the position I wont be playing next year. I would hate to miss my senior season over a jerk coach who stabbed his own team in the back. Thanks a lot Weng.

I've been hearing a lot of talk about replacing the area's high school and college football programs with soccer. Would that be a good change?

I have not heard the soccer rumor. I do try to get out to watch the soccer games, though. The kids are good, but there are hardly ever anyone outside of parents and school faculty there. Perhaps it is because they play early in the afternoons, or non-weekend days.

Football is a big money maker for the district. To replace football with soccer will not only lose revenue, but our football athletes as well. It would kill our high school, not only in morale, but loss of students and the funding the system gets for them as they move to other districts where they could play.

I highly doubt they will do away with the football program at FKHS.

Haven't you known the local school administration to adopt dumb ideas in the past? All supposedly in the best interests of the students, of course.

if you all aren't wise to it yet- this administration is anti-sports/activities and doing everything and anything to shut them all down.

you better watch it or your kids will be going to school in a lock down school system

All I know is that FKHS will be announcing the new FB coach very soon. I hope that they make a good decision for the student athletes. I have always wondered if getting rid of Gieson was an opening to hire a family member of the board! I hope they are brighter than that! Whom ever they hire the job of bringing the team together will be their most important job now!

It won't matter awhole lot who gets the head job at FKHS unless the administration takes a strong stand and hires assistant coaches who are knowledgable and able to teach the game as well as being good role models both in class as well in public. No matter where good programs have good leadership from the top down.
