I have to agree on you on FMC business and how they stayed strong. We still have to remember they did take out thirty billion or so in loans, still benighted from cash from clunkers, and have outsourced and built more production factories outside of the united states than in it in the last five years. Toyota has built more factories in America than ford has in recent years. It's all international business my friend

Please remember there is a difference in assembled in America and made in America. Where do profits go from foreign cars assembled in America? You are 100% correct on Ford establishing a line of credit just before the car business went in the crapper. After car business started going south the auto makers stock bottomed out and the overall value of the business was nothing. If you owned any GM or Ford or Chrysler stock you took it in the shorts! You can not borrow money when you have nothing to borrow it against. GM and Chrysler would not have had to need the government if they had huge lines of credit established from other lenders like Ford.

Great points. I understand assembling something in America might not carry as much weight as something completely fabricated in America, but the workers are what have always made the country thrive and we are being passed up for cheaper labor everywhere. Even by prestigious ford. If you need to feed your family do you care whether you work at ford or Honda ? Prob not ,just like the big wigs at most companies dont care who is making the product. They are the ones that care most about the dollar. Why can't America be the best at international business? I don't understand every logistic, but I know only thinking as our country as a unified national workforce and supplier is naive

So everyone knows... Just because Ford did not borrow government money during the latest recession, doesn't mean that they have NEVER borrowed money... Because they have. Just so ya know.

Just so ya know. Just so you know, anybody that has ever had a VA, VHA, or HUD backed loan has also borrowed money from the government. What's your point?

Just pointing out... OP is acting like Ford is God himself because they've never had to borrow money.

Sam is not saying that Ford is God. He's just pointing out that it's something to be proud of that, in this recent near depression economy, Ford went out of their way and did everything they could to save the company without the aid of a federal loan. Which, in turn, saved the company. It's an example of how Chrysler and Gm should have handled themselves. Instead of making you feel negative it should make you feel proud of our country and the fact that Ford did it the right way this time and it worked. Which proves our way of life and core financial principles work. Count on what you have and not what you can borrow.
