I have heard to many things I dont like about Coffeyville Schools. I hear their classes are over sized and I dont feel that kids get as much attention when the classes are to big. So I'm just assuming you live in Coffeyville, I could be wrong though you could have moved but ifyou are still in Coffeyville how did you get your child in an out of district school? My child starts his first year of school this year and I am against how Coffeyville does their Kendergarten classes in nursing home (or so I have heard)
yes kindegarten is at windsor place. the old folks teaches them their abc's. yes, cps is a losers school. they don't teach anything, they just pass them on. classes are way too big and theres caos in the clasrums. i gradated from theyr last year.

South Coffeyville is a GREAT school! I graduated from Coffeyville and can say I never once went back to visit a teacher or staff member. Yes there were people I liked there but did not attend a school with a family like atmosphere. That is exactly what South Coffeyville school has. There is something special there. I can also tell you that they have many awesome teachers who go above and beyond to make a difference in their students' lives!

If you want your student to attend a school outside of your district, you usually have to talk to the school administrator and the superintendent. There may be an out of district cost that you will have to pay.
I do not know the age of your child, or the grade that they are in, but since the current administration took over at the high school in Coffeyville this past August, there has been a lot of improvement at FKHS. Not to mention that most of the faculty and staff are awesome. I have seen it firsthand that commitment and drive to be the best they can be. Sure, class sizes in some areas are large, but that is not the fault of the district. The state has cut funding for education and there is not enough money to hire more educators.
I grew up here, attended the CPS, and I turned out well. My children also are products of the CPS, and fine, upstanding, sucessful and intelligent.

South Coffeyville School is not a good school. It is awful my kid goes there. There is way to much bullying and the test scores are bad. I dont know how they are even staying open. I would look into this a little better. You child will not have a good experience there....

Not so much a Redneck school, but more of a who's who. This is because of being a small town. I went to Coffeyville and didn't learn anything until after I got out of high school.( All I had to do is show up each day,and some how they passed me. I recall taking a few test, but never passed any of them. They still give me a degree.
i am so glad someone is finally saying this stuff my child goes there now and it sucks. My kid isnt learning a thing and it isnt a good school wish they would just close it get rid of it for good. i think coffeyville and union could handle those kids better and give them the right education they deserve...thank you for saying what you did. i thought that i was the only one that thought that.

I personally don't know how that they teach in Southtown, but I know several teachers, All of my nieces and nephews went there and one of my sisters worked there for awhile. I do know that it's a great school. Sometimes they will hire in a new teacher that hasn't ever taught before and usually new teachers need to learn how to teach. A person isn't trained while in college on how to teach. They just have alot of theory and practices thrown at them.

Can I ask you what you do to help your child to learn at home? It's not the teacher's total responsibility to teach a child. Parents have to teach at home if a child is going to learn and be a good student.

IF, there are any teachers that aren't doing their jobs, I'd say that there's less than a small handful and the majority is having to carry them. Teaching is a passion. You don't become a teacher usually unless you feel called. Teaching isn't a job that you fall back on in times of trouble. It is something that you live for. You can't wait to wake up and get there to do your thing. Teaching takes up 90% of your waking time. Even the weekends are shot and every evening. It's not a 7 hour job and you're done. Like I said, it's a passion.

I intend for this response to be well-formed, respectful, and truthful. Many of you have made valid observations, but some of them have been formed and argued from a position of ignorance. Kansas residents are not allowed to enroll their children in an Oklahoma school because all parents or guardians are required to sign an affidavit of Oklahoma residence. However, sometimes people are untruthful and that is on them. If caught they will have to pay a hefty fine.

I am convinced that all schools have pros and cons, and good teachers and bad teachers. Of course that includes South Coffeyville, but it also includes CPS and OKU. I know teachers from all three schools and each of them are committed, caring educators who quite frankly often have to deal with students who care little about education. I have also worked with, or been acquainted with, students or alumni from each school. There are some good students, some not so good students, and some average students from all three schools.

It is really unfair to categorize as terrible, an entire school or staff due to one bad experience or an ignorant belief. It seems to me that it is more productive to be supportive of our children's choices, allow their school pride to resonate within them, and leave the name calling to those who don't know any better.

Thank you for lifting up with praise those of who who care deeply about other people's children. I teach at SC and most everyone on this thread has bashed the school I call home. We're not perfect by a long shot, but so many of us wear ourselves out daily to be the best that we can be. It is often a thankless job and many parents blame us for their own failures. It can be disheartening to be slammed by others who don't know you.

One correction: OKU doesn't require the affadavit so you don't have to worry about getting found out. SC does require it.

I am very sorry for all the bashing on South Coffeyville, I didnt start this thread to upset anyone or have people bash on the school system. I have heard about alot of kids who live in Kansas going to South Coffeyville and have only heard good things about the school until this. I was simply curious on what Kansas residence do to enroll their children over there because I would love for my children to go there.

Im betting teacher is a lunch lady or custodian! If shes been there 20 years and seen alot of kids get kicked out she has to be one of them.
you know it is true and by the way she is talking to people that tells you all how good this so called school is maybe she should of gone to Oklahoma union to get a better education. Then maybe she wouldnt play like she is a teacher and show her true job....LOSER>>>> >>>
