AP Fact Check: Here Are Obama & Romney’s Biggest Missteps & Mistruths During Last Night’s Debate

OBAMA:“I’ve proposed a specific $4 trillion deficit reduction plan.… The way we do it is $2.50 for every cut, we ask for $1 in additional revenue.”

THE FACTS: In promising $4 trillion, Obama is already banking more than $2 trillion from legislation enacted along with Republicans last year that cut agency operating budgets and capped them for 10 years. He also claims more than $800 billion in war savings that would occur anyway. And he uses creative bookkeeping to hide spending on Medicare reimbursements to doctors. Take those “cuts” away and Obama’s $2.50/$1 ratio of spending cuts to tax increases shifts significantly more in the direction of tax increases.

Romney Destroys Obama in First Debate, Left-wingers Go Nuts

Romney was animated. He was, as Steve Schmidt put it,“clear, cogent, and concise.” He also delivered his remarks in a tone we haven’t heard before. It displayed a sense of confidence that is a critical quality for the position Obama currently occupies. In all, it was polished and presidential. One could easily see Mitt Romney in the Oval Office with his cool delivery that seemed to make the president very uncomfortable. However, detractors will say that he’s had plenty of debate preparation concerning the grueling Republican primaries, although I’m not sure how being prepared can be construed as a negative. After all, the president called his own debate preparation a “drag.” Even though it was made with facetious overtones, it conveyed a sense of arrogance and unseriousness that has been one of the main criticisms hurled at the president. He assumed he would get bonus points for being the leader of the free world and he was grossly and ignominiously mistaken after his first bout with Romney.

As a result, the president gave Romney the death stare midway through the debate. There’s no doubt that the stare, coupled with the puckered up lips, were indicators that Romney got under Obama’s skin. In an ironic twist, Obama seems to have become John McCain concerning the feelings of indignation towards those who dare to have opposing views on the issues. For Obama, Romney disagreeing with him isn’t just wrong – it’s somehow reprehensible.

Fox News says that "no President has the power to increase or to lower gas prices" and the only way to reduce our vulnerability to gas price spikes is to use less oil. It's all market forces.

Obama's Re-Election Case Rests on 5 Phony Claims

1. Bush tax cuts and deregulation caused the recession.

At a campaign rally, Obama said Romney is "just churning out the same ideas that we saw in the decade before I took office ... the same tax cuts and deregulation agenda that helped get us into this mess in the first place."

2. I stopped a second Great Depression.

Another frequent Obama claim is that "we did all the right things to prevent a Great Depression." But this, too, is false.
The economy had pretty much hit bottom by the time Obama took office, and long before his policies were in place. The worst declines in monthly GDP and employment, in fact, occurred before he was even sworn in.

3. My policies are working.

In his recent two-minute campaign ad, Obama claimed that "as a nation we are moving forward again." But while the overall economy has grown somewhat since Obama's recovery started more than three years ago, several other important indicators have actually gone backward.

4. A slow recovery was inevitable.

Obama dismisses the slow and painful recovery by saying that he knew the road would be long. "I always believed that this was a long-term project (and) that it was going to take more than a year," he has said. "It was going to take more than two years. It was going to take more than one term."

5. Nobody could have done any better.

One of Bill Clinton's biggest applause lines at the Democratic convention was when he said that "no president — not me or any of my predecessors — could have repaired all the damage in just four years."

But historically, deeper recessions have been followed by faster recoveries.

Yet despite the depth of the downturn, Obama has presided over the slowest economic recovery since the Great Depression.

In fact, what has been noteworthy about Obama's recovery is how frequently it has "unexpectedly" underperformed economists' projections.

To get a sense of how dismal Obama's recovery has been, consider this: Since World War II, there have been 10 recoveries before Obama's. Had Obama's merely performed as well the average of all those recoveries, the nation's GDP would be a staggering $1.2 trillion bigger than it is today, and 7.9 million more people would have jobs.

It probably doesn't help our gas prices, with the current restrictions set on Iran and the Strait of Hurmuz. 35% of the worlds oil travels through that area, and slowing down travel through the Strait has made oil prices rise even more. That blame falls directly on each side, for tossing around words of war.

Number Of Americans On Food Stamps Hits Another All-Time High: 46.68 Million

About 46.68 million Americans received food stamps in July, the government said in a report released late on Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend, a traditional time for dumping bad news. The report for July, the most recent month that data was available, showed participation up by 11,532 from June and 2.9 percent higher than a year earlier.

“When the president took office, 32 million people on food stamps — 47 million on food stamps today,” Republican Mitt Romney said in last week’s presidential debate.“Going forward with the status quo is not going to cut it for the American people who are struggling.”

"The utopian schemes of leveling [redistribution of wealth], and a community of goods, are as visionary and impracticable as those that vest all property in the Crown.[These ideas] are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government, unconstitutional. Patrick Henry

It sounds like you are talking about Dubya.

He was the one who never made a mistake. Watch this clip: http://youtu.be/haQzdW7hg4A

Wow, I can't believe our country survived 8 years with that Dubya moron at the helm. I'm glad Obama will get his second term and continue to rebuild after that drunk frat boy evangelical GOP catastrophe.

Obama sucks because he got his ass handed to him in the first debate and his response is to act like a grade schooler and call Romney a liar and saying that is why he lost and whine about Big Bird. Oh Yeah...that's the ticket. We are in an economic crisis, facing the financial cliff, ambassador murdered, islamic flags replacing our torn and burned flags hanging over our embassey's, Iran closer to a nuclear weapon than EVER before, our ally's are not even sure about our support for them, more American's on welfare and a record number of them on food stamps, more than EVER before, and the president is going to run on and use his campaign stops to discuss losing funding for Big Bird and making jokes about Sesame Street puppets. Does he even want to be president anymore....seriously?

Democrats simply can't handle the truth because the truth does not advance their socialist agenda. It's said that a lie can make around the world twice before the truth can get its boots on. What they fail account for in telling the lies is that today with advanced communications the truth has got boots with the wings of Mercury. These people are not nearly as smart as they thing they are. Romney/Ryan will win by a large margin because the truth is catching up to the lies and denial is not an option. Could be wishful thinking but the truth like reality has a way of asserting itself regardless of all efforts to hide and distort.

CEO Tells Employees He‘ll Have to Fire Them if President Obama’s Re-elected

David Siegel, founder and CEO of Westgate Resorts, a Florida-based real estate and time share company, on Monday told employees in an email that he “will have no choice but to reduce the size of [the] company” if President Barack Obama is re-elected and raises taxes.

Subject: Message from David Siegel
Date:Mon, 08 Oct 2012 13:58:05 -0400 (EDT)
From:[David Siegel]
To:[All employees]

To All My Valued Employees,

As most of you know our company, Westgate Resorts, has continued to succeed in spite of a very dismal economy. There is no question that the economy has changed for the worse and we have not seen any improvement over the past four years. In spite of all of the challenges we have faced, the good news is this: The economy doesn’t currently pose a threat to your job. What does threaten your job however, is another 4 years of the same Presidential administration. Of course, as your employer, I can’t tell you whom to vote for, and I certainly wouldn’t interfere with your right to vote for whomever you choose. In fact, I encourage you to vote for whomever you think will serve your interests the best.

PBS: Obama Claimed He Was 'Kenyan Royalty,' Recalls Classmate

I understand that he told his fifth-grade class that he was Kenyan royalty, but I never heard that story until years later. My sister and I remember very clearly that he was an Indonesian prince and that he would be going back there. So there was some reference to where he had come from, and the understanding was his family was there.

I didn't know who he lived with at the time. I since know that it was his grandparents. I knew where he lived, because a lot of times if it rained, my dad would give him a ride home from the tennis courts, because we would hang out after school. In the summers we'd hang out at the tennis courts; after school we would hang out at the tennis courts. That's what we did. And that's what Barry did pretty much from fifth through eighth grade. And I think after he leaned up and grew and got into basketball, he shifted away from tennis.
