Sometimes contracting out can be less expensive, sometimes its not. One must weigh the total cost, equipment, social security, health insurance etc, then see is it more affordable to hire it out or do so in house.

Coeburn is NOT broke, If anything Loretta has brought more tax dollars into the system. Loretta does a pretty good job with what she has to work with. I don't always agree with her decisions but they are for pure business purposes. With that said, If something does not happen to the job situation in our area, If Obama and his war on coal continues we are all screwed. Remember when you go to vote all of our's futures depends on it.

All I can do is laugh at this... good point with the job situation, but if you're expecting our "manager" to improve jobs and anything else about this town, keep on dreaming.

In all fairness there is not a lot a town manager can do to bring jobs in. One can chase them away by pushing for higher town taxes, or by cutting back on basic services. Given the state the town has been in for ages, along with the stupid moves from wise I don't see much hope for jobs in this area at all.

There won't be many jobs to come here. No one wants to invest in this area at all. I am sick of the same people doing the same thing all the time. Anyone who manages anything should have enough knowledge of finances to keep things in order... Our town definitely needs improvements, like a new manager and a new sheriff.

I cant imagine any jobs will be coming here. There's no work force, and no work ethic. Some have jobs but must drive to Norton or elsewhere. The jobs in town are sad at best. Coeburn was robbed of its highschool and its identity so that Wise could have new sports facilities which it now seem to be more and more unlikely that the county can afford 60 million in new debt. Drugs are rampant in town and no one seems to notice, just don't go through town with a headlight out that will really get their attention. The few stores that are left are one by one closing unless you sell some kind of fix on the corner like trips trinkets. Unless obama is stopped, there is no hope unless you just want to move.

The guys are fine and very nice, BUT the company Veolia which is who they work for is not. Veolia has broke Coeburn and charges $117,000 a month which is CRAZY. People of this town tried to tell Larry Salyer and that old council at the time not to get them here but they did not listen and now look. Coeburn is to small of a town for a big company like that. Most every small town they have been in has almost went broke.

How can Veolia be breaking the town when they were cheaper than what the town was running it 2008. By I believe by $30,000 a year. Go look it up at town hall, it's in the minutes of the meetings. Not counting all of the equipment they brought to Town as well. The POWERS at be would try to blow smoke and make the public think there more expensive. Call the state health department and see what they say about the condition of the system before Veolia and since they have been managing the system. Just keep on drinking the Kool aid they are giving away.

You might look at how the whole public works is run. Why do you think they brought in a company to run the public works, its because the people in charge had no idea on how to run it. It is run more efficient now, and thats whether you like the company or not. Facts are facts, yes Veolia probably does make a nice profit, but the men that run the public works are you neighbors and they have run this town very efficiently. It would be in the best interest of the town to hire the same crew that runs the facilities now, and keep your profit in town but keep the people that are realizing that for the town. Just saying.

You must be in denial $30,000 thats rich. They are making over a $100, 000 profit. They are not saving the town ANYTHING. I guess every small town that has money trouble when there providing service thats just hmm well lets day odd. They are for a larger city not a small town.on FACT if you get the paperwork at town hall as you put it it costing MORE now than then. I have lived in Coeburn all my life I was at the meeting when Larry hired them I told hom then it was a mistake.

Let me break this down for you. If they save the town 30,000 a year. This means they operate the town less than what they were operating it in house. Including the profit. They are in business, so yes they make a profit. If it's cheaper including the profit and the taxpayers are paying less then thats a good thing in my book. Ask the state how well the system was being operated before. It's pretty nice to save money and the system being operated better. Take the $117,000 per month figure everyone is throwing around that the town is paying. Do you think this cost was not there before? Everything was free I guess. Add the $30,000 savings back to the total that the town was paying itself to operate the same services. divide that number by 12 months and you get somewhere in the neighborhood of $119,500. Savings is savings in my book.
