Hey Jess, now that your getting your feet wet, concerned people in our town have a very important question for you.
Why are over half of the business in Coeburn allowed to operate with out a business license? Isn't this part of the procedure in paying taxes for the town. Reports keep saying the town is broke but yet we allow business to fully operate and skip on taxes. Don't you think it's time to fix a few problems in this town?
Man up Jess it's time to face the tows problems and not run and hide.

I agree with the taxes I pay mine they should too. Why not do what the town of Wise does? Put a notice in the paper informing all citizens and business who owe past due taxes that if they don't pay by certain timeframe your name and/or your business will be pubished. That might get some to pay.

Before you dog Jess about this, how about you learn who actually takes care of that. Loretta was the one who dealt with all that. Now that she may be gone, I guess things will start looking better.

well has it,where there is smoke, there is fire.i don't think the state police would investagate unless they had some solid proof.hopefully they will move fast on this.put the thiefs in jail where they belong.we have a great mayor, town council, and police dep. in coeburn now.all we need is a honest town manager, then coeburn will grow.we can be known again as the home of friendly people.we did have crooked police dep.crooked town manager, crooked mayor, and town council, but thank god they have all been removed.i used to be afraid to even drive tro town, because of the corrup police, now i feel safe.i am now proud of my town again.

To Mark and Doug...I don't know if Loretta took the money or not...but in our Judicial System "innocent until proven guilty" is a RIGHT of the accused in a criminal trial.

To pass along RUMORS or citing Idioms (where there's smoke there's fire) is denying that persons rights.

This country was founded on a belief in certain unalienable Rights. When those rights are denied one person it becomes easier to deny other rights to someone else the next time.

Like I said, I don't know one way or another about her guilt. She hasn't even been charged yet...that's what the investigation is all about.

If she's proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, then she should have to pay for her crime.

Seriously whether you like Loretta Mays or not the last thing this little town needed was another scandal. All of the LOL and LMFAO this is no laughing matter. If she has been raiding the town coffers do you really think the town will collect a dime of restitution? I seriously doubt it. No wonder my sewer rates are 170% of my water bill. When Loretta took over there was a 3 million dollar budget surplus and now the town is broke. I fully believe in innocent until proven guilty because believe me I've been no angel but I also have a little common sense. Where did the money go? Certainly not to improve this town or to drug programs as some1 suggested would be a good idea earlier. I would say it most likely went into the pockets of our "friendly" former interim manager amd the police department she hid from prosecution so quickly. I'm sure when the investigation is complete this will involve more than Loretta. And the sad thing is in this town everyone seems to operate under the cya theory so we may never know id Loretta acted alone or is being thrown under the bus by co-conspirators.

Well I hope the investigation includes more than just Loretta, let's be sensible, you know that the underhanded politics going on, as in her bogus contract, were to help hide the others doing wrong right along with her. You really think she was the only one with her hand in the cookie jar? I don't. I think everyone on the town council or who holds a public seat in this town should be investigated, those with nothing to hide wouldn't mind it surely. I think for anyone to be a member of a town council or to be a town manager or mayor should have extensive back ground checks, had they checked her credit ( and this was from family) they would have found that putting her over a large sum of money would be inviting trouble. She also told people (also family) that if ever Petey was fired from Chief of Police that she would not be able to mantain her office....which should lead to a few more investigations. It is my belief that she is guilty , but, I would gaurantee she isn't the only thief in a position of power in this town.
