Don't they check records?
If I were a parent I would be screaming bloody murder that he is working with my child.
Man you can tell that you are ignorant! No one care, I'm from South Florida (Miami, Ft. Lauderdale) and here we can care less of his orientation. You small town conservative folks need to get over yourselves. The questions are "Is he a good teacher? YES" "Do the kids love him? YES" "Is the band thriving? YES" "Has he done anything wrong? NO" "Does he follow The County Ehtics Policy on teaching? YES" Leave the man alone, open your minds, and get over your extreme conservative small town self. His personal life is his business not yours, it has nothing to do with his ability to teach. He is a great director and I would be pround to have my kids study under him.

Where did Dustin Werner go? Why did he leave?
he left Merritt Island cause working for that school to get the numbers up and get the program to thenext level was just to much work. Lack of cooperation, bad work ethics, people who are still in the 1960's and too much time away from family go to him. How can you work for a school and a community that has no idea and just don't care on what needs to be done to be successful.

the kids do not love him i am a former student and our whole band class hated him. he was always actin gay and kicking all the black kids out. the band is not thriving, the school is closin next year. and he has not followed all the ethics policies because he is teachin the kids to be gay and rasicts.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here. You are a black student, you didn't get what you want and since you were hooked in that stupid fictonal movie called drumline you wanted to be just like that, and since your didn't get your way you constantly got in trouble and disrespected him. As a result he constantly threw you out of class, met with your parents, wrote referals, and eventually got kicked out of band because your band wasn't like the movie drumline and you had major discipline problems. Students like you only want attention and want to be the focus from everyone, and your probably thought that you were a good musician. Good or not your attitude stinks and you need to get over yourself. Get a degree, get actual teaching experience, then sit down and have a discussion on how to run a program. Until then shut up, get into the real world, respect other people, pull your pants up cause it really isn't underwear if we can see it, and be a good student. Everyone knows who you are and they were glad to see you leave the program.

My daughter is currently a member of his junior band, and I have no indication he is anything but a great band teacher. He presented a concert last night at Astronaut HS, and it was very impressive. He presents his band and himself very well. I also have a younger son, and will have no problem with him learning from Mr. Werner. FYI, I am a heterosexual male, and I don't care about Mr. Werner sexual orientation, nor would I ask.

Mr Werner took us to BOA Finals all 4 years. He taught me invaluable lessons in music, on life and instilled positive ethics in all of us. He had a lifelong impact on HUNDREDS of kids. Mr Werner made history at WSHS as the music program dwindled and finally went to pot in the years after his absence. I miss you Mr Werner! I hope you are well and I would love to reconnect and catch up.
