Letters: Fairbanks "road to nowhere"

Full story: Las Cruces Sun-News

At the June 8, 2009 city council work session, the council reached consensus that by July 31, 2009 Fairbanks from Madrid to Palo Verde should be rerouted to the east away from the eight properties on Martha Street that have back yards abutting Fairbanks.

JOHN F. MORGAN..........just get a life, will you! People like you, who scare monger against particular dogs, obviously don't know anything about dogs in the first place.

The one and only time I was ever bitten by a dog, it was a very small dogs that came up behind me and bit me in the leg. I have always owned large breeds such as Rottweilers, Dobermans, German Shepherds, etc., and have never had one of those dogs bite me or anyone that I know.

It's not the dog, Sir, it is the person that owns the dog that is the problem.

Absolutely correct.
I am fairly certain that I could turn by beagles into violent creatures if I so desired.
The dog is not more responsible for his behavior than is an infant. The owner is what makes the dog violent.

Why in the hell does the paper continue to print the NRA propaganda? Charlie Revie has become the latest to regurgitated for the umpteenth time.

While “Gays, Guns & God” and the “THEY are gonna take your guns” worked as campaign strategy ’94, I think it’s pretty well run its course. There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell this will ever see the light of day in this congress. I gotta admit, as a hunter and gun owner I don’t give a damn about this bill. The talking points are simply Reich-wing propaganda.

From SNOPES: As was the 2007 version of Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act, the current version has been referred to the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security, and the fact that THE BILL DOES NOT HAVE EVEN A SINGLE CO-SPONSOR makes it unlikely that it will ever be brought to a vote before Congress, much less passed. ESPN Outdoors correspondent Wade Bourne summed up the bill's chances of passage thusly:....
Lawrence Keane of the NSSF [National Shooting Sports Foundation] states, "If this bill passes, Democrats would likely lose (control of) their chamber in upcoming mid-term elections (2010). The leadership in the House knows that." Keane says some 80 million-plus U.S. citizens own firearms, representing nearly half the households in the nation. He believes that House Democrats will allow the Blair Holt bill to die in subcommittee rather than risk the ire of so many pro-gun voters.(last updated, 2/23/09) http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/blairholt...

I've noticed yet another problem with right light cameras. It's a well-known fact that most Las Cruces don't turn right after stopping on red, they run the red light when turning. This creates a hazard for persons approaching a green light since someone will almost always run the red to turn in front to the car with the green light. Right turns after red need to be banned at red light camera intersections.

Roy: It is not so much that the chances of passage are slim to none. What bothers so many of us is that it was written in the first place.

It goes against the grain of America. It is unconstitutional as written. The author is from Chicago, the land of the highest murder rates despite draconian gun laws.

The bill should never have even been put in the hopper

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Sagittarius

Once again, the domestic atmosphere isn't exactly peaceful. Someone is still all worked up, and you may have come out in sympathy by now. Try to discuss things with as much objectivity as you can muster, otherwise, with Mars now retro, the conversation will soon disintegrate into a bad-tempered spat or a slanging match in which you try to catch one another out. It's important to clear the air.
