THATS IT ??? This post just trails off. What is the staus of the old hotel ? Does anybody know ?
I was following a real cool big old building in athens ny. Guy bought it for peanuts and got 400,000 in grants to restore. Making a microbrew and rest. check it out search crossroads brewery athens ny. Very cool hughe 1890s opera house ! amazing . We should be able to save the olympia, and not need some railroad owner ? to do it. Any railroad owner worth his salt /or of any size should be able to finance restoration of olympia with pocket change. thanks

It's not that the people who bought it ran out of funds....It's that Joe refuses to sign over the title/deed so they can proceed further. Now I'm told it's in the hands of the courts. So while Joe sits his butt in jail it's at a stand still. I agree it should of been torn down because the only living thing I saw around it were rats and it's a crying shame he let it get to be that condition in the first place. The Western is right behind it and if it ever sells I wish tremendous luck to the sucker who buys it. I am so sick of this small town drama and wish I could move back to PA

I remember back in the late 50s when the Western and the Olympia were in about the same condition. I was kind of young so wouldn't have known which was in the worse shape but the Olympia was a beautiful looking old building while the Western was just a building.

It's a darn shame that Naughton, who by the way is a scumbag, bought the place and let it go to ruin.

It is a shame that something hasn't been done about the Olympia for all these years. It is a eyesore and I think it should be somekind of health code violation. Can't the town impose some hefty fines for it being in this condition?

Many have complained bitterly about the shabbiness of the defunct Olympia Hotel in the center of the hamlet of Callicoon.“This complaint comes up every few years but there isn’t anything we can do about it,” said supervisor Bill Moran.“It’s private property.”
The old hotel, which is a vestige of an era of prosperity when scores of visitors came up from the city by train, stands diagonally across the Western Hotel. "We have offered the owner a number of opportunities to be part of a grant program to fix his building but he doesn’t want to participate,” Moran said.“The timing isn’t right for me,” said owner Joseph Naughton, who also owns the Western Hotel.
Naughton claims that the Main Street façade program from the county was limited to just one side of the building that faces the street. His building can be seen on three sides!“I fully intend to refurbish the building but I can’t right now,” Naughton said. Until then, the Olympia Hotel shall retain its’ title as the single scariest hotel in America.
I think Mr Naughton does not want anyone else to own it so it is not in any competition with the Western. Like a kid with a toy he won't let his friend play with because others will think the friend plays with it better.

Found this little tidbit while searching....The Hotel Charles was formerly called Kramer's Union Hotel. KRAMER'S UNION HOTEL -- Youngsville and this was posted online so am passing it onto you. I know it is a bit dated but you never know.
I am interested in information on Kramer's Lake and the Kramer's Union hotel. My wife and I bought the land that formed the lake and are interested in any information on the hotel or the lake. I appreciate any time you take in responding and any information would be helpful. Kelly Beaton [email protected]

Sorry to see the Olympia has fallen on hard times. I stayed there in the fifties with my parents and brother. Loved the trains going by. My grandfather had been the pharmacist when my mother was in high school. I remember Prof Lewis doing the NY Times crossword in the dining room on Sunday morning. We bought our first dog, a dachshund, from the Olympia's owners who breed them. I also remember the Ratskeller where the parents went in the evenings for a drink while my brother and I played on the big wood shuffleboard table which overlooked the tracks outside. I was hoping to stay there in 2010 when I bring my oldest son up to do some fishing.
I believe it was owned / run then by the Prasciunas family, Lithuanians, who had a boy in my class who bacame a college athlete in Arizona/

What was the address of the hotel Charles? It used to be kramer's union house. I went there as a child. My grandfather and old man Kramer were from the same town in Russia. They were friends.
