It is so nice to see a great business like this one in Southern Illinois! It has character and food that is hearty and reasonably priced! Live music is definately a plus! Classy place to enjoy an evening. Good luck to the owners! I will definately frequent this establishment!

Evidentally, you don't go there often! The owner likes to sleep with married women! The food was/is horrible and way over priced.$45 for an elk steak? Get real.
Not to mention, he has a new girl (bedroom buddy) trying to run things and well just watch and see.

Junior, that's a great post. "Great for the area" does seem like a bit of a Mr. Rogers fan! I have been out there a few times and it sure isn't anything like they say it is. We won't be going back. It's pretty, but that's about all I can say about it. To hear that old guy talk, you would think it was something really fantastic. I guess he is one of the owners? Yuk! I hope he isn't the one that sleeps with married women! It seemed a bit more classy early on and each time we went, it got worse. We had a small issue with our food and the guy just kept making excuses and blaming people. I don't really care whose fault it is, just fix it please. Anyway, best of luck to them I guess.

Wow, you guys are tough customers...lol. I will not talk about my personal life. That's pretty pathetic to do on this site. Just remember there are 2 sides to every story. Come see me in person and Ill tell you mine. I would like to address the business issues though. The Lodge has been my home
and my 3 childrens home for 15 years. Two years ago while going thru divorce, the recession hit and like thousands of other pilots I was furloughed. I found myself facing the loss of everything I had worked for in my life. After giving up the job hunt and realizing a temporary career change was the only possible way out, I began with the help of friends building a business plan. We were able to get a loan and start construction and remodeling. I honestly never dreamed we could get it open but somehow it came to life. The Lodge has faced very tough times but
still hangs on. We have hit many stumbling blocks in the short time we have been open but continue to get back up and go forward. We are climbing a mountain. Now I wish I could say we have always provided excellent food and service but I know we have let a few of you down. I am a pilot and have not been in this business before and have struggled with finding honest and good employees as well. But we have good employees now and we have good food. I feel we are on the brink of a great year with the wine trail taking off soon. I hope you will give this new but improving business as many chances as it takes. We are not a chain restaurant. We are much more interesting and unique. I hope to see you
all soon. Thanks, Brian

Very well said Brian! Your Personal life is your business and your business only. People need to keep their noses out of it. Best of luck with the lodge and the pilot job search. I think the food is amazing and i will send as much business as i can your way. My wife and I love the wine trail by the way.

I have to disagree with the earlier postings, about being over priced and not good, 12 of us popped in on a Sunday the food was excellent and was fairly priced! Try stopping in to almost any restaraunt with a dozen people and see what the service is like, we were VERY PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! I might add that 4 of the people who were with us are some of the "hardest to please" ppl I know, it is a great place to ride and eat, will be back for sure!!!!

Well, I for one disagree with Graybeard! My husband and I have visited this establishment a few times. When Brian came to our table and asked about our meal, my husband was honest, the steak was horrible, the salad was old and the mixed drink I ordered wasn't fit to drink. He promptly blamed the steak on the cook, the salad on how my husband ordered it and my drink on the new bartender. He didn't apologize, give us a "free' replacement on my drink, etc. As for his personal/private life, it is his business, but if he does sleep with married women then of course that touches his character and when you are in business working FOR the public you should have broad shoulders and be prepared for the fall-out. This is a small community and tongues will wag!!

This message is to concerned. I seldom ever have had anyone complain without offering a free drink at the least and have comp'd several meals. You said I didn't offer anything "free". I have had a few customers who simply cannot and will not be satisfied. They make a game out of getting the "free" meal. You have been her 3 times you say? Was every meal a disappointment or just the last one?

Av8tor, I didn't say we had been there 3 times, I said we had 3 different complaints. Actually, the last meal we had there about three weeks ago wasn't too bad. However, we feel that our business is more appreciated at other local establishments. We feel that your place is more of a tavern than a restaurant and your attitude was a little stand-offish. We weren't looking for a free meal, just didn't like the way you made excuses. And, I'm sure it is very difficult to please everyone. I'm just voicing my opinion. Don't get your panties in a wad, remember you can't please everyone. We wish you the best if luck in your ventute, especially with the economy the way it is. CHEERS

Ok I see. Well there are lots of great places to eat in town and on the trail. I'm sure you can find what you are looking for. If not the Lodge is here for you and as I said, we are improving. Take care

Av8tor, don't waste your breath on "concerned". It is obvious the only thing this person is "concerned" about is scrounging a free meal/drink. I'll bet this person complains at every single establishment she patronizes. And "concerned" did say she had been there "a few" times and that does constitute 3 visits. Did "concerned" complain at all 3 visits? I would venture to guess that the answer to that is yes. I hope she doesn't show back up at your place. She's obviously a pain.

I personally haven't been to Trails End Lodge but all of this talk makes me want to check it out for myself. I'm not one to listen to the "cheap shots" that others like to hit people with out of spite, jealousy, cruelty, bitterness or shear boredom.

I am sure the world would be a better place if people were talking to each other instead of about each other.

Ouch...ok let's not start a fight. Let me just say this. The Lodge has hired a vibrant young lady to manage all aspects of the operation. She is well qualified and very likable. She is bringing back many popular menu items as well as new ones. She has great ideas and will strive for consistency. I myself am going back to the cockpit where I belong. Ill see you at the airport!

Wasted breath, why focus only on my posts.? I'm not the only one that said we didn't care for the place, not going back, etc. Unless of course you are who Joel named as the (new girl/bedroom buddy). Chill out and get over yourself. Seems as though you have mote of a problem with my comment than Av8tor does. Free country, free speech, opinions only. good luck to Trails End Lodge, the owners, staff and patrons!! No hard feelings on this side.

Camptown racer I'm sorry we could not satisfy you in any way. Perhaps you should try one of the other nice places in cobden or on the wine trail.
