Are they going to provide transportation for all the poor women up there with no vehicles?

Who wants to have prenatal care at Lehighton and then go down to the uber-huge LVHC to be delivered by practitioners they have never seen before?

This is all about the bottom line, pure and simple. Low-risk women who are properly screened do not need an on-site NICU.

if the women are poor and can't afford a car, then they should not be having babies either cause how are they going to afford them? Good god, what is wrong with this world!

While I agree with the second poster, I am having a problem as I watch the Blue Mt. Health Care System sink lower and lower. Too many high salaried jobs = services and employees being cut. Salaries are being frozen and no contributions to retirement funds. To me the figures of the so called decline in the maternity area were not that drastic. I would like to know the statistics on these births. Meaning the "backgrounds". Are more being paid through welfare ? In the over all scheme of things I think the merger was a lousy idea. Should have never happened. What is really needed is a good CEO and Administrator who is there for more than the almighty buck.

I would be willing to bet, that most of these patients our on some form of assistance. None of these people are going to go to LHVCC! They will go to the ER to deliver. The hospital's are going to place the Er Doctors in a situation they shouldn't be in when it come to delivery. The price of insurance is going to put these Dr's out of business. The system is flawed and it stinks.

as a matter of fact, i heard this directly from an OBGYN..... so many people are having babies at the gnaden facilities and yes they are on WELFARE/MEDICARD and the hospital is not receiving reimbursement for such. So all you welfare receiptants, lets continue to produce babies, not work, and sponge off of our system when all of us hard working people, with kids, make too much monies to qualify to any help, but make too little monies and just seem to squeek on by....

Such a terrible shame, you can not even go into a food store without having to stand in line with a smelly person that has lobster and steak while you have Richfood brand veggies and whatever is on sale for the week to feed your family. Now, the good people will have to drive an hour to have a baby and more job LOSS! Perhaps a sign should go up- NO PLASTIC GREEN CARD ALLOWED- if you have access- than you are not welcome here. Too many signs up everywhere to accept welfare- not enough that refuse it. What is wrong with PA, keep giving to the poor and lazy..........Put a cap on welfare and seal it tight!

Probably just a typographical error. I believe they meant LVHCC. I've already heard some people say that they will just go to the ER. They'd be better off just staying at home. If the ER transports them by ambulance, then that will drive the costs up even higher. Yes, it will still be the taxpayers, picking up the bill.

I understand and totally agree with what you all are saying. Didn't the powers that be know the stats when they totally renovated the maternity unit after closing the one at Palmerton ? They should have known about the reimbursements 3 years ago ! No doubt that Carbon County has become the welfare haven but the big boys should have known this when they spent all of that money ! I had to find a new ob/gyn because every time I had an appointment the waiting room was filled with the welfarers and their kids. I also know what it's like to stand in line in a grocery store with my coupons in hand and my cart filled with "specials" and generic items only to see the person ahead of me with TWO carts filled with the very best, no coupons, and pay with their food stamps card ! I think we've all had it. But the facts remain that somebody dropped the ball when all of the money was spent and they didn't see the "writing on the wall".

What your saying is so true.... What never séance's to amaze me, is that these very same people that are standing in front of you with the over flowing shopping cart's are living on the system, get their education paid for by the state, and even can get an allowance to purchase a vehicle, They can go to School to further their education, and I need to work two jobs to make ends meet, and can't get financial aid for school because I earn to much. Don't even get me started on the big screen TV's they have....

Good Post, I also have waited in line, with my list (so I don't go over budget !) and my coupons to see someone in front of you with no list, no coupons, and NO worries, using the good old food stamp card. It's always the working class that suffers in some way, nothing is handed to us, and what do we get...nothing, sad but true !!

Wow seems like your living my life !! I also work two jobs, my children get NO financial aid. The "system" told us we make to much, I'd like to see them at the end of the month, see what they have to say about the amount of spendable cash I have !

at least the latino and black women can now go somewhere else to have welfare kids...maybe that's the real reason it was closed.

Seems the longer hours you work, the less money, groceries, gas we're bringing home. Guess I know where its all going.
