Mrs. McCartney and her family lived for many years in Lansford. Too bad she couldn't have done something in Lansford. The article states that Jim Thorpe downtown was once dilapidated. True, so is Lansford and nothing was ever done to help there. Seems like all the energy & money went to Jim Thorpe. I wonder why.

Maybe you can go back and do something for Lansford if you are so Concerned. Obviously you dont care to much, you moved away. Maybe people are more concerned about there town in Jim Thorpe.

Lansford and Jim Thorpe cannot be compared as to development. Lansford was a great town before the mines closed down and the decline was due to a population exodus. No work in town so the people moved to locations where there was work.

Jim Thorpe, on the other hand did not experience this type of depopulation. Once the railroad industry declined many people stayed and commuted to nearby places to work. No need for the majority to relocate.
Jim Thorpe also had many great attractions that were lacking in Lansford that Mrs McCartney recognized and help to developed. The Opera House, the mansions, a unique courthouse, and european style main street etc.
Also the beautiful river and mountains, are great natural attractions and do not forget the draw of the Trains, in short the old "Switzerland of America" has made a predictable comeback.
This place was ripe for development , and she was smart enough to recognize it, plan for it, and see it to the state it is todayl
God Bless her and her family.
